I have a crazy client and she wants a flash gallery. here is the gallery: http://www.joyphoto.ca/index2.php I have re-created the gallery in wordpress to an almost exact match and told her their are many problems and browser restrictions to flash, but she doens't care. Can anyone please help me and tell my what type of flash gallery this is. I'm convinced it's custom.

OFC it's custom duh most Flash is , however you bit way more then you can chew . That gallery makes use of asynchronous Action Script which is the Flash equivalent of AJAX . Start reading up and pray that you have enough time , that thing will take a couple of days to write and test .

Also Flash has little problems with browsers since it runs directly on the OS .

Thanks man, that's all I need to hear. I had told this client I could make a duplacatie site for cheap. Check this out, free hosting and a custom Wordpress site with a gallery that looks bang on to that one for $500. It looks the same, but She is pretty much calling me a scammer, unreal! People are so out of whack to what things cost. Flash is great, but with so many people living on their iPhones it makes no sense to build your site like that.

If your client is really getting on to your nerves for this, I would say refund the money. That's the only solution. Or, if you can, out source it to the person who made the Joyphoto.ca website.

I have only been paid $250 so far. I spent a lot time on it, I don't feel I should have to refund money.

The problem is what did you promise, and how much was done. The number of hours isn't very relevant if you cannot complete to the specifications. Depending on the contract or deal you had with your customers, sometimes you need to compensate them instead for not completing the project. Just hoping that you had signed an agreement that is favorable to you.

It's all verbal. But I have just given them 3 options. 1.) I will refund $100 of the money paid ($250) and I will delete the website. 2) take it as is but find your own hosting or 3. ask around, realizie that you are out of your mind ( i didn't say that) and we finish the last 10% of the site. thoughts?

We've all had a nightmare client who makes us want to kill either them or ourselves or possibly both, but also teaches us an important lesson. In your case that would be agreeing on project specs before starting work!

Good luck sorting it out, she sounds a bit mental :p

Flash will ALWAYS be a problem.
Unless you're making a game, I can't see any reason why you'd want to use it.

Heavy image and speed optimizations , easy to build , easy to code . Unfortunately the majority of Flash developers never heard of speed optimization .

As for the reason I said that check out the new Flash CS6 :D

The client doesn't seem to care if it's flash or not. All she wants is for it to work. Why not use something else to make it that looks exactly the same?

I am sorry that everyone else seemed to have overlooked the sheer unprofessionalism on your part. Your client has given you a task which you were free to take up. The 'client' is within his/her right to demand anything and can expect you to work until you achieve it. This is something you signed up for when you took the job.

Calling her a 'crazy' client is just wrong, and in my opinion I think it is best if you return her money if you know for a fact you cannot deliver. Considering how you did not finish or fulfil your end of the deal I think its unreasonable for you to think you deserve the money.
