Google rolled out a new Panda update today - did you see your rankings drop?

Discussion in 'Google' started by Premium Domains, Apr 24, 2012.

    Hi all,

Looks like Google's new panda update has affected many sites rankings today. Did you see a drop in your rankings? Does anyone have any update on this algorithm change?

And more importantly, does anyone have a specific solution for this?

Please don't post the usual 'build quality content' advice - I already know that and my site has quality and unique content.

    Thx.

The important thing about this latest update is not to panic. Some truly bad results in the #1 spots and on the first page for many keywords means that Google is tweaking the algo. Wait a week. If your results remain bad then it's time to freak out. How are your longtails doing?

I was wondering when someone on DP would notice the new Panda update.

Thanks Valkerie, good point. When you do a search for 'viagra' you will see a lot of .edu domains in search results. If Google is testing their algo, shouldn't they be able to do this without affecting the world!

Google is making life tough for most webmasters.Couple of my sites are down since the 'parked domain' and now again a Panda. I have to find out alternative jobs for at least a month. :D It will take some time before things get settled..

I had a drop, actually looks like penalty today exactly. My domains SEOd got from first page to worse then 5th page.

I don´t know where will this update get to, but is the update that most hurts my whole network.

Look at the top results for "search engine" - Google is going to have to tweak algo, as they are not number one for their own keyword phrase. They are either 7 or 9.

EMDs seem to be down. And, if you used ALN, have over-optimized key phrase or had negative SEO applied to your site, you probably lost rank. Spun crap linked to your site - some sites were affected, some were not. The bottom line to the shake up is a lot of bad results on the front page for a lot of keywords. People who live and breathe SEO are wondering what Google is doing.

Oh, I forgot - old sites are doing well in this updates.

Is this permanent - no. Search results are too crazy.

So, give everything time to shake out, and watch your long-tailed keywords. If they are taking a nose dive - you might have a problem - but you won't really know for a while.

    Hi All,
Check which pages are ranked for the kw which show drops. I got half of my kw "reindexed" with new pages that were never ranked. Naturally the ranks now are much lower. Some of the kw dropped 50 positions and I find there a page which is completely irrelevant to the specific kw. What a mess...
I suggest to sit tight for a week or so. Lets see if Ol' G will fix the issue.

Yeah I am starting to not care about Google as much as I used to and in the future will do what I can to please Google, but if it's not Good enough, there is always some traffic from Yahoo, MSN and bing. :)

Same here. Not having any issues with any of my sites. It seems most of the people that got hit were trying to play Google, so I'm glad they're weeding the crap sites out.

Actually, they are not weeding out the crap sites. They are weeding out sites that have linking profiles that look unnatural to Google. Big difference - as Dan Thies, white hat webmaster, found out when his site got targeted by negative seo specialists as FU to to a post he made to Matt Cutts. If Thies wasn't as well known as he is and have a direct line to Cutts, his site would still be sinking in the rankings because of someone else's actions.

That's why a lot of webmasters are shocked. They have quality sites. They have unique useful content. They also have link profiles that don't stand up to big G's guidelines. This algo targeted people who used blog networks, such as ALN, BMR and have spun content linking to their sites. Since this algo is still settling, the results are all over the place. Spammy sites, one page "hello world" sites are at the top of many results, while useful sites are falling like rocks.

Give it a week and see where everything settles. But, understand that Google will not roll back Peguin (also known as the 9-5 algo.)
