link wheel, without the wheel?

    i hear a lot about link wheels and how they're bad for business. How there are rumors that you can get penalized for using a link wheel as a backlink method (linking from various web 2.0 sites and linking them together). Well would it be a dumb or decent idea to setup a link wheel normally, backlinks on web 2.0 sites but not have them linked together? like a normal link wheel goes, wordpress links to freewebs, freewebs links to livejournal, etc. but don't have them linking to each other?

    ideas? thoughts? thanks in advanced!

    Yes what i have seen is that it is really powerful way to get your website's keyword on rank, but depend on how you do it. Web 2.0 is an property of Link wheel and including that there are other more properties.

    Two years back this might have worked. Nowadays it's a waste of time that will only get you penalized for not following their Google webmaster link scheme.
    Google can detect such schemes programatically and can evaluate link graph built as a result of them crawling and indexing the web.

    Remember: There is no "Free Lunch" any more

    Emmm... If link wheel is not working for you, you may try with link pyramid. Now a days, it is considered as the most legit way of linking your own content.
