Editing a website template, need some help

Discussion in 'HTML & Website Design' started by davidneff, Apr 1, 2012.

    Greetings,
I am new to digitalpoint and new to the webmaster business. I am learning at my local vocational school, but need some help for at home work. I am building a website for a church and have downloaded a pre-made HTML5/CSS template and I want to edit this.

    1. How do I change the name of a navegation link?
    2. How do I add my own content?
    3. How do I remove the dummy text?

    Thanks,
    Dave.

Welcome here davidneff, you just need to open those files in a HTML editor and change the text you want.

Hey Try Downloading Dreamweaver, you can get a 30 day trial from Adobe.com.
Open your files in it, and you can edit your HTML file as if you were editing it in Microsoft Word.
If you are comfortable with basic HTML editing, you can open the files with Notepad and replace the dummy with text you want.

Thank you folks. I love dreamweaver and use it at school. Can I open an entire website template and change the navegation links around? What do I do if I need more or less navegation bars?

Need to see the HTML to offer advice. HTML is just a text file, so any text editor can view it and edit it.

Hey try using Dreamweaver from adobe.com or you give Expression 2010 a chance from Microsoft Office (http://expression.microsoft.com/en-us/cc136520.aspx).
I would suggest using the "Design" mode first and then after you have learned some stuff start using "Code" mode. :)

Also take online tutorials. Here are two good tutorials:
    1. http://www.w3schools.com/html/ (textual tutorials)
    2. http://learncss.tutsplus.com/lesson/ (video tutorials)

Good thing about both of these tutorials are that they are free.

Cheers and Have a good time making websites :)
