In my opinion, Google takes a picture of each page, examines and caches (stores) that version as a back-up in the Database. The cached version is what Google makes use of to judge if a page is a good match for a searched query. Google index refers to getting website listed in the google's database index for SERPs.

Yeah all suggest the same thing-
Cache means when search engine crawler come to your page or found any update on site.Or you can say it means the snapshot of a web page captured and indexed by the Google.
Index means you page is stored in SE database. That means if you search your site in Google by domain name and if the result shows your site domain then you can assume that google have indexed your site else it is not indexed yet.

Cache means it is a space to store something.
Indexing means giving a unique id to stored data.

Cache: Is a snapshot of your webpage while Google Bot crawl your page.
Index: Is an availability of your webpage in Google database.

Once the spider has come and after crawling the page, it take a copy of that page if required and leaves a date and time. When it crawled your page, that date and time is called google cache.

After crawling, caching the page, the spider takes the copy of that web page with it and saves it on the google server, this process of saving the web page on its server is called google indexing.

Cache :- When search engine bot or crawler come to your page or found any update on site, this process is "Cache".
Indexing :- After reading the updated element it stores those new elements in Search Engine's database. This restoration process is "Indexing".

When search engine bot or crawler come to your page or found any update on site, this process is "Cache".Cache means the snapshot of a web page captured and indexed by the Google and if you want to check it then just type cache://domain name. This will provide you the last cache of your page with date and time.
Indexing means after reading the updated element it stores those new elements in Search Engine's database. In the process of Indexing search engine spider processes each page it crawls in order to compile a main index of all the words it sees and their location of each page. You can use SEO toolbar to check the date of index.

Google Cache : Google Cache is nothing but a snapshot or a copy of a page stored by Google as a back-up. Google usually takes a snapshot of each page it examines and caches or stores that version as a back-up. The cached version is what Google uses to judge if a page is a good match for our query.

Google Index : Indexing is the processing of the pages scanned and is what creates the index that uses Google to give results when you search.

When a search engine bot visits your website for the very first time and adds it to the database it's called indexing. Wrong SEO methods and spamming can cause de-indexing of the website. After indexing your website the bots will keep visiting the website for changes and update it's database and copy of your website on the search engine that is called as cache of a particular page or website. You can use robot.txt file which files or folders of the website needs to be cached by search engine.
