I always thought that the PR was calculated on your backlinks but recently discovered that Google has started giving good PR to even pages with no backlinks but great content.

 

As per my knowledge, if you want to get high page rank then you can gather permanent quality back links for your site and if you want to get higher rank so you should have page rank for your website and I am always prefer for page-rank. By the way thanks for information.
