Business plan for skills?

Hello.

I was wondering what kind of business two people with the following skills could set up as business.
Without actually working in an agency.. some kind of creative start up idea. Anyone wanna help me out with this one? Any suggestion?

• packaging design
• some marketing skills
• copywriting
• some video editing skills
• illustrative skills (we draw pretty stuff)
• mastering photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign.
• some 3D skills

Well you could start a website design business, making templates for sites, games and the sort

Well, you should try a marketing or publicity agency, make ad campaigns yourselves and present them to companies in your town, convince them.

You can learn flash and make entreteinment/funny animations, if you do things right, its a very comfortable lifestyle, you can earn very well, since you can have an eshop of merchandise of your characters

You can mix both and offer animated ads for small to medium businesses

Web design seems like a natural fit for you, however, you shouldn't limit yourself based on the skills you currently have. The vast majority of successful people I have seen know how to surround themselves with people in areas they are weak at. I just watched a TV show that was about Bill Gates. The guy is not the greatest communicator and not great at all for Public Relations. He hired a guy that had a better image than himself, spoke better, knew how to handle the press, etc.

I would recommend following your dreams and passions, put people that are strong in areas that you are weak and you will probably find yourself pretty successful.

 

Since you don't want an agency.. try something truly out of the box like an online comic book.. or even an RPG game site either text based or animated. You can go into the creative part of the business. It won't be easy but you might be able to get some freelance work as well. Best of luck

Pick up random jobs you can do with your skills on sites like scriptlance, within a few jobs it will become clear what you enjoy doing the most, what's the most efficient and profitable, and you'll have a small client base who you can ask, and perhaps take on a more permanent outsourcing role with once you've decided.

However, don't feel limited to standard business models, generally speaking if you enjoy making it, and people like to have what it is you made, then you have a viable business, no matter what "it" is (e.g. you don't need to be a service provider, you can make nice things and sell them, digital or tangible).

 

Word of mouth is the best way to get advertised, but you need to start somewhere. DP is a good place, but look around other forums too.
