Promoting Free Classified Ads Website

Discussion in 'General Marketing' started by easy2sell, Mar 9, 2012.

Hi all, thanks for taking the time to read my post. I recently setup a new classified ads website. I already have few ads posted daily but wondering how to increase the traffic. The website is user friendly and easy to navigate compare to most big names. I do allow ad posters to include their personal/business website url. Anyone have some ideas how I can increase the traffic. I have listed the site on few directories. site name is easy2sell.net. Please feel free to list your website/services. It is completely free.

    Thanks for your input.

Your problem is going to be you have no content - You need content to get traffic (unless you are paying for traffic) and you have no content yet.

I would put some content up on your site first to get the ball rolling.

the other problem is you are using sub domains for each countries listing of classified ads - sub domains are effectively new sites as far as google is concerned. So you really need to add content to each sub domain as well.

Having a site that looks so empty is not unfortunately that compelling for visitors :( But I understand it's also hard because you have to start somewhere.

    Try content first I think.

Thank you Tim for your response. What sort of content are you referring to? Do you mean more ads? The site is simply for ads.

No I mean real content, articles maybe - The thing is google want's to index content - it will mostly never send traffic to a site with little to no content because it's not a good experience for users.

Right now your site has very little content :(

Ebay and other other classified ad sites succeed because they have a lot of content (peoples classifieds). So another option would be to create a lot of ads - but I am not sure I would recommend that.

Sorry I do not have a better answer - I do know content in 2012 is king and you need plenty of it (and for it to be high quality) in order to get traffic unless you are prepared to pay for traffic.

I think at first you have to do basic of search engine marketing like directories, article, blog, forums etc.. And then you can go with paid marketing for this like Google Adwords, Facebook Paid Campaigns

It's a tough niche to be in. Me and my wife are running a classifieds as well and we are doing pretty good as far as bringing in traffic. We already have a steady flow of visitors - both posters and seekers. Keep in mind you are competing with 1000's of other classifieds. Make it as user friendly as possible and use every opportunity to promote it. If you have $$ to promote it through AdWords or AdCenter do it for a month or so. Good luck!

To the poster. I recommend using social networks such as twitter and facebook. This can really help you. I also recommend trying to post it in your forum signature or other similar things. You said new site so if you are getting over a hundred visitors a day and your site is only a month or so old than this is actually pretty good so you should continue to do what you were doing too get this far.

    Spam?!

Classifieds are good resource for getting high traffic but you have to use regional base classifieds which are more effective than others bcz you can directly hit the main place where you are too.

Along with better SEO, you can post your ads on other classifieds sites for eg. Zubera Classifieds

You need provide something free, some value to those merchant to post their ads in your site . When your site do have lot of ads post , your site will be more quality post , link back and keywords optimization increase. These will help your site SEO and increase in SERP. In the end you will get lot of traffics with the high SERP on those post.
Try to get more link back from facebook which will help your directories to get more exposure.

Put better content on your website and try to share it as much as you can, on social networking websites. Gradually you'll see a boost in your website's traffic. But with the present conditions, it doesn't look like you'll get much traffic.

No matter how much content you add, google is not going to leap you head of the pack overnight....
You need content, backlinks, then the traffic will start to come, so unless you are on the edge of
some break through miracle, then saddle in for the next couple years, or even longer, because
forums and classifieds is not the best market to be in seeing there are so many already out there....
and free does not mean instant success, you have to work at it like everyone else, keep posting
content, do more link building, post on forums, twitter, facebook, other social media, and so on...
and when you are done with that, then do it all over again, then repeat one million times....

I have a site that has been up for a year, and it has roughly 50K backlinks, and
only getting 10-20 hits a day, and if this tells you anything, you probably have
a better change getting hired at walmart and becoming CEO....

Setting up a website is not easy, and there is no guaranteed success....
