Why does Google update backlinks so slowly?

Discussion in 'Link Development' started by froinlaven, Jan 3, 2006.

I was just wondering why Google takes so long to update their visible backlinks. It seems like it would be quick and easy to update them dynamically.

My site has only been around for a month Yahoo already shows most (or all) of the backlinks to it.

Shouldn't this be an easy task for a search giant such as Google?

Sure, but why would they? The only people who care about links are SEO types and Google never/rarely goes out of their way to help them out.

they most likely do not want to show this info. I wouldn't worry, they see them even though you will never see all the links in a link search within google.

Also, google visible backlinks updates are not as quick as the othe search engines.

Try searching on google backlink updates in this forum to get more info than you want on the topic.

I guess I can see your point there. It's just that Yahoo does it pretty quickly, and I would have thought that Google would want to "beat" Yahoo at all things search...

They are like a 2 year, if they dont want to do it, they will not. You wont get a reason either. :D

Dont worry though, they do see the links and as your site ages you will view more in thier cached of visible backlinks

I suspect they take new backlinks into account when ranking your site before they update list of backlinks to your site they choose to show. As GutFromChicago said backlinks are only an SEO thing.

I get it. For me though, it's more of a vanity thing. I just want to see who links to me. It's not like I've payed people to link to me or whatnot. That would also help me find sites related to what I'm interested in.

I guess it could help for predicting my future PR too though...

Use Yahoo or MSN for a much better list of who's actually linking to you.

Google NEVER shows all your links. MSN or Yahoo is a better judge.

Google only shows your quality backlink and the link which are up to Google requirements. But on they other hand Yahoo and other backlink checker tool shows your all backlink.

I have to agree with the other reply that asks the question about motivation. It really doesn't serve
Google to do so, only the people like us that are developing web sites and hoping to move them up
the ladder in page rankings. It's my understanding that Google only does this four times a year, which
would suggest quarterly. Anyone have any other information on this?

Google does most of the work automatically, you have to do it manually, its spiders can crawl data at it's time but you have to keep building links so that you would get benefit.

When you say that Google spiders "can crawl data at it's time", what do you mean?
Don't you agree with me that Google spiders work when Google tells them to, and that
it's not a benefit to Google as much as it is to the webmaster?

Are you saying that when Yahoo "Leaves" 1000 backlinks, then Google only
recognizes a few? I'm really not sure what you mean by Yahoo (leaving) them?

Google doesn't essentially index backlinks slowly... rather, you backlinks may not be considered quality in googles eyes.. perhaps where you are dropping back links they are "nofollow" or may be on websites that don't get crawled often by Spiders on google.. they are many factors.. I would consider looking into how Big/Popular the sites you drop backlinks on actually are.. then check if they are Follow or No follow.. That would be a good start.

because your backlinks are not important to big G, neither are everyone's backlink including me. you know the reason why big G is number 1 search engine nowadays, don't u? it's because they provide quality to users. They don't index spammy things like your backlink and my backlink. Hence, what you need to do is forcing them to index your backlink. how? using indexing service like linklicious, lindexed, or similar services

I bought a web site and apparently it has a theme called Gazette. One of the options following the post area is called Gazette SEO settings and the option is
SEO - Set follow Make links from this post/page followable by search engines.
My question is whether or not to check this box, which to me seems intuitive, but puzzling nonetheless.
    Can I get an AMEN?
