    What are the web services ?
    I don't know what is web services but I am very interested learning about web services and I search this word on search engine but I can not find proper definition, meaning, benefit and about all web services.

    Web services are nothing but providing some service like free or paid email like hotmail and gmail. You can start providing free chat service to users where users just login to your site and chat with each other that is called web service.

    Im not clear on what you're asking but will try my best to answer.

    There are web services of different types, for example SaaS (Software as a Service) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_as_a_service

    There are premium services, free services and something called freemium, they can be B2B (Business to Business) or B2C (Business to Consumer) it goes beyond this though.

    I have a feeling though that maybe you are asking about something else, hopefully this answer wont be a complete waste of time :)

    Some of these answers are not quite correct.

    A web service such as a WSDL or WCF service allow you to write code from as simple to a hello world app to a full fledged world class data driven application.

    What the service does is allow Web application, standard desktop application, silverlight applications, flash/flex applications, mobile phone applications etc all use that same service to retrieve data.


    The benefit is you write one service and it can easily be used in virtually any app in any language on any platform.


    For example, you create code that downloads and converts video files in a web app. That web app is the only thing that can download and covert videos. If you wrote the download and conversion as a service you could reference that service and create a desktop app, an Iphone app, a Windows phone app and a web app very easily without rewriting all the code. You would only need to code the reference calls and your user interfaces.
