Hey Guys, Here's further proof that you don't need a gazzillion-billion links in to rank high in Google search results, Obviously the Grammy's were today and thanks to the new Panda you don't need a shit load of spam links to rank high - in particualr for events such as this... in one day I ranked in the 4th spot out of 81 million results and it's for a decent search term... Note: In case ya wondering my site is the eyesonstars one (fourth spot) - where the page cuts off. See look at that... no off site work at all and wham - front page within hours... I don't do any off site work at all. I didn't even target the key words or search term - completely innocent and unintentional on my part... My point is focus on your own freaking sites and don't listen to the noobs telling you to build links, spam blog comments, spam directories, spam twitter or Facebook - just work on your own damn sites...
Okay so the advice you have is not to be obsessed with the new what to do what not to do and just focus on good and relevant content? I am very confused about this one article I read about not repeating terms. How do you not repeat terms if indeed they are relevant to your site? For instance you are talking about grammies and here are the grammy winners grammy this grammy that so you didn't get penalized like these articles say you will. Just like you say to heck with what they are saying and just do what you feel is good content. Congrats to you for your placement.
There's a few things to watch for yes... To many ad's above the fold is big one right now - I was kicked in the nuts recently with that one... Keyword spamming - well there's admittedly a little bit going on - but I use Tags as my categorization of the site. The grammies are big in my niche and if I was running say a finance site and then jumped onto Grammies like I have - then I'd face a penalty - but my site's celebrity related... so that's OK. It's not like I have made 5 posts based on the one person in a row with similar content. I have also incorporated a little more text into my posts. I guess Google sees a lot of different Grammy posts on different people also - so it's authority is on Grammies at the moment. I wont post for a little while either - as Google obviously indexes the first post on my site to the left and that has the spoken key words. That post was made a few hours ago - and initially the index page picked up the key words - hence why it carries a little more weight - the post and search term itself isn't driving much traffic - but I have other search terms - related - that are very popular at the moment. And - yes - they do give new posts and pages a lot of juice and that's my point... keep it fresh and regularly update... even change categories or tags often - page navigation should change regularly to stay up to date... I f i see traffic falling for a given tag or category (as in search numbers) I ditch it and find something else that is trending. Grammies is also a yearly event and Google wants to display this years content and not last years - so they do give new posts (as long as you have dates set in meta and posts) a boost... my site slowness is and was a factor to - I tried to update the server to cope of late... and installed a few plug ins to increase the speed - which is another huge factor for Google... You can have a peak at what's trending in search terms (on my site) and what's hot right now: http://www.histats.com/viewstats/?sid=1710267&act=18 - probably a silly move as copy cats here will try to copy cat my posts or search terms - but that's OK... you will see a huge jump in the past fortnight - in traffic - and then a steep downward slope and that was my ad's penalized... so in the past few days I buckled down, removed ad's and added a lot of posts to get the spiders back on my site... seems to be picking up again...
The search results mean nothing, your keyword is in superb low competitive and no search volume. You wouldnt get traffic although you rank at #1, mean it is useless. This kind of keyword can easily rank at #1, i test on this kind of keyword few years, just simply work out on the onpage SEO and get rank #1 within a week and it stay at #1 until now. The result result is 84,400,000 but the fact is it never generate traffic
What - do you really believe that I am going to show you my good key words? Well you know what... I will smart ass... and these are high search terms (at least for now)... I have a migraine and can't see properly... but anyway to prove my point... check those out. Again - I do not use off site promotions or link building... if you have enough of these long tail search terms then the traffic adds up fast.
So it appears the proof is in the pudding. I think once you get the keywords down and a few good posts indexed you are in like Flynn.
