You can grab many backlinks in a day. It is not specified any where in SEO. So just try to get the genuine backlinks. It must not be in bulk. It must be relevant to your website.

I think it varies probably according to the age of your domain. If you domain is brand new then 1000s of links per day going to the site will look unnatural to Google and would be penalised.
