Now i feel directory submission is losing his value day by day. It's enable make any changes in the search ranking. No one like to use directory for searching product and services. Most of the webmaster and link builder are avoid directory for improving back link. So what you think it is good to pay more for the listing in directory ?
What is the next alternate of directory submission ?

I don't think so to pay for listing in a web directory because they are available free on the internet. There are so many way to get paid listing like adwords, high PR paid links.....!!!

You will pay one way or another, a lot of the free directories will pass on your email address and result in lots of spam for you, you will also share space in those directories with low quality sites, the owner wont look after the directory.

And occasionally some are cheeky enough to ask you to click their adsense ads to pay for the upkeep of the directory.

The other options if you dont want to submit to directories (odd place to ask that question btw) are PPC, facebook, twitter, blog commenting, forum posting or spamming.....

Paid/Featured listings generally aren't worth more than free listings. There are, as always, exceptions to this rule. For example botw.org is a directory well worth paying for, since its authority is very high and a link from them will pass on this authority. If you run a serious business, these are some of the directories worth paying for:

    http://dir.yahoo.com/
    http://botw.org/
    http://www.business.com/
    http://www.dirjournal.com/
    http://www.alivedirectory.com/
    http://www.umdum.com/
    http://www.site-sift.com/
    http://www.gimpsy.com/
    http://www.joeant.com/
    http://www.uncoverthenet.com/directory/

But these listings might get expensive, hence paid listings should be bought only for your serious websites. Also, before you go in and buy a link, take a look under the category where your listing would reside and see if it's indexed by the major 3 (google, bing, yahoo). It's also worthwhile to note the pagerank of this deep page (category page).

Whether paid or free, it wont matter if you dont get a link from it, i can understand people not wanting to pay but getting listed in a free directory does not mean a link from it, i understand that the same can happen in a paid directory.

It might be worth considering that getting a paid listing in early in a directory that you feel and hope will stick around my be a wise move, because if their charges go up in the future then you got in while it was cheap, that link will age, the directory where listed will age and overall its makes sense.

To be blunt some people cant afford a paid submission, and thats understandable, but for actual companies it can be small change and if they have a budget for advertising and can get permanent listings in a directory for about $15 as opposed to paying that amount for about 4 clicks through PPC then you can see why for some businesses it appeals to them.
