We're not talking about the same kind of traffic, but yes with any well done site about any topic you will be able to get a share of that traffic.. But not so many people are looking for architecture, more are looking for other things.. So yes you can have traffic, but don't expect too much from this topic.
Why is this thread called "Hobby Site vs Traffic"? It should be called "Hobby Site + Traffic = Win!" No website can make money without traffic, and any website that gets enough traffic can convert, even if they are crappy websites. I have seen incomprehensible websites that still manage to make a profit, it's all about what kind of traffic you have, and how much traffic you get.

If you are knowledgeable about your hobby and you learn some >seo tricks you will get some traffic for sure. Make sure if it is a low searched niche to place your ads blended inside your content. I guess do that anyway, but especially for a low traffic niche that doesn't depend on >CPM earnings. Also, make a Facebook page. It is easier to get traffic from Facebook than you would think. Also, be creative!
