Hi, Is there any explanation. How it is possible that some web directories have only 2000 active links and 100-200 backlinks but their PR is 5 or 6, and the same time there are a lot of directories with 20K-40K active links and 2000-3000 backlinks but there PR is only 1 or 2. I recently started a new directory at http://www.1000directory.com and would like to increase my PR. So any answer is appreciated.
The number of links within the directory does not really have much to do with it (unless you are forcing them to link back to your directory). The 100 - 200 backlinks are no doubt just better quality than the site with 2k - 3k and have a higher PR
its the quality of backlinks. you can have 100k links form PR0 pages or just 100 links from high PR pages. amount of PR juice transferred depends on the page rank of that specific linking page (not the home page) and amount of outbound links found on that page (more outbound links, less the pr juice transferred)
The quality of the backlink is more important than quantity. 1000k crap links will not beat 100 quality link
Your PR isn't going to be too high with a ton out links sending visitors out from your site It isn't a good idea to, you know, spam...or accept spam...or link to spam
yes, quality content that is updated often also a key factor in this. Then making sure you are targeting a proper keyword and making sure that you site and latest information is getting posted quickly. These plus back linking gets you a high page rank, not just back linking alone. Especially after Google's latest update.
Quality over quantity, sweet heart! Quality links, a few dozens, can get you much higher PR that tonnes of crappy links.
To reiterate what everyone else has said. It is the quality of the backlinks and not the quantity that will effect your PR. Having one PR7 backlink could be more valuable than thousands of PR0-1 backlinks.
You definitely want quality backlinks. Working toward your own backlinks and traffic clients backlinking i sthe best but not always quickest way to do it. Get your keywords and site noticed..If you have a unique niche check out goanswers.net as an option. It's tough to get traffic from non google sources....
Getting a backlink, that's good, but it's even better if the backlink comes from a page filled with keywords related to your niche. That's the best scenario: if the keyword is in the URL too besides being on the page then the backlink from this page will be really worth for your ranking.
1 Quality Back Link can beat 10 to 15 normal back links. So get limited back links but quality back links.

may be your 20k back link has no page rank or authority websites, so i will suggest . always invests some to find do follow and high page rank websites, no matter submit just 10 directories but that should be good page rank websites,
