To all those saying posted on Twitter/Facebook, who are you posting to exactly? To your "friends" or on your business/fan page? Most of those people could care less about your blog. Best to target your audience and have good content. People are getting tired of everyone prostituting their website/blog/youtube/etc. to them.
I agree. That's all Twitter is these days, everyone shouting "read my blog post". If you don't have a list of targeted followers that are on the edge of their seats waiting for you to post an article, you are just wasting your time posting links over and over again.
SEO do takes time. Even with the use of social media sites, the traffic won't go high that instantly. Patience is the key and balance quality and quantity.
If you need visitors more quickly just use some free advertising campaigns or use free classified website to get instant free visitors to your blog.

If you want traffic quickly you will have to pay for it, there is not really any other way. Basically all of the free methods are long term strategies that require patience, but I had to try something then video would be my recommendation. The videos have to be really interesting or funny though to work - not just boring average videos.

Another set of authority sites would be those famous Web 2.0 (or user contributed content sites) such as Squidoo and HubPages. You can quickly and easily create a “site†on their site, and using their ranking, you can link to your site. Squidoo is pretty conservative on linking, while HubPages isn’t, but HubPages is more open about its topics.
