What is Google "Panda" ??

Google Panda is a change to the Google's search results ranking algorithm that was first released in February 2011 .[1] The change aimed to lower the rank of "low-quality sites", and return higher-quality sites near the top of the search results.[1][2] CNET reported a surge in the rankings of news websites and social Networking sites, and a drop in rankings for sites containing large amounts of advertising.[3] This change reportedly affected the rankings of almost 12 percent of all search results.[4] Soon after the Panda rollout, many websites,[5] including Google's webmaster forum, became filled with complaints of scrapers/copyright infringers getting better rankings than sites with original content. At one point, Google publicly asked for data points[6] to help detect scrapers better. Google's Panda has received several updates since the original rollout in February 2011, and the effect went global in April 2011. To help affected publishers, Google published an advisory on its blog, thus giving some direction for self-evaluation of a website's quality.

how PANDA deal with duplicate content or blogs? any tips? as i have some duplicate articles and blogs on my website

 

Google Panda is the new Google algorithm that was released on February 24. The reason for its release was to give priority to websites with proper content, and penalize all those that use duplicate content, and link farms, which are those full of links to other websites.

 

I hope backlinks are still important and quality backlinks still count?

 

It's important to remember that Google is always changing. Panda is an algorithm focused on producing better results for users by weeding out 'spam' sites with poor content. Simple as that. The intricacies are always changing.

before panda our website was ranking 3rd in buy books online now it is at 15th on google. I am not able to understand why the rank of big giant companies is not changed even after update who has 100 times more links then us.

I feel google affects only mid level companies, while big giants is source of revenue from them, there must be some sort of signups with google, its all corporate games
