I have a new site (one year old) that was stumbled upon by several users pushed our bandwidth from 200megs per day to 700 megs I thought great. But then the last google PR update we went from a PR5 to a zero. I help but think it was something related to this.

If you prodcue good content people will find your site and it dooesn't hurt to stumble upon your own site. It might take other people a while to pick it up.

You don't think a huge spike in traffic from social networks has any impact? I thought I recall reading something about this about.

I don't know does a link on a social network count for anything other than the direct traffic it drives?

This is actually a question worth studying. I would think, though, that visitors gotten thru 'social networks' would be nearly as good as those gotten through natural search or similar sources. Or is there suspicion that such networks can be exploited?

I wouldn't see it hurting your rankings. B/c then all you'd have to do to kill your competition is stumble them...

Google is to smart to do something like that.. Normally the only way you can hurt your rankings is from something you've done onpage.. So go check to see if you were blacklisted or something. (notice i said normally though)..

So don't worry, stumble will be good traffic even if the ctr isn't that great.

Why do you want visitors from stumbleupon ? They will not make you any money.

jesterx : why don't you tell us here on forum those secrets instead of pointing out something we have to wait for 4 days from now and then later buy it ?

You're kidding right? At last count StumbleUpon has over 1,000,000 users (yes thats 1 million), doesn't seem like a lot, but how many does Digg have?

jesterx is correct, the more people that give your sites a thumbs up, the more people that will see the site. Its not quite like getting to the homepage of digg, but its a lot more steady, regular traffic, instead of the one off spike you get from Digg.

    Mubs
