I feel that google does not like .info as much as .org. Is that true?

A friend is trying to make the same calculation. Don't think it really matters where SEO is concerned if you're covering your bases. More a reflection of site content. Pretty sure search engines treat TLD's equally and look to other factors when making an assessment.

Doesn't matter when it comes to SEO, but all I can say is that .org can look more professional depending on the site. It is also easier to remember.

I think .org ranks slightly better on certain search engine than .info?

In term of SEO, both the extension is same. However, when consider on the visitor, .org are more friendly
    If possible, go for .org

When doing SEO on either of the two extensions I've always found better results with a .org. Not only this, people tend to trust your website more if you have a .org domain as .info are very cheap.

    hi.
In SEO it doesn't matter whether you use org domain or info domain because SEO wants manual work, original content. But most of the people like to use org domain because it is more user friendly and also looks professional. You can use both of them as SEO treat them equally.

It doesn't matter about the domain name extensions. The only thing you should keep in mind is to be active on your website with original quality content.

i agree that TLD doesn't effect in terms of seo or traffic. what ever tld do you choose is depending on what is your position(e.g company or individual) and availability.
today people doesn't care about extension like com for commercial,net-network,org-organization,bis-business...etc
i give this scenario, person A build a personal blog but used dot com extension which is define as commercial purposed

I would say .org is better than .info as in it looks more professional and more visitor friendly.

Google doesn't give that extra boost to .info EMD's, so, IMHO, it really isn't in your best interest to get a .info domain if a relatively good .com is available.

A .com or a .net will be a better long-term option.

Accordion to my experience very small difference in terms of SEO, but order(ascending) will be: com, org, net, biz, info

I've had better luck with .org. No luck with .info, so I gave up registering .info domains.

I'm really surprised that there are some reputed members in here only posting crap posts ..
If you don't know the answer, then don't post ! it's that simple !!!

@Thread Starter : it's better to avoid using .info, Matt Cutts stated clearly that Google is starting to look more into the domain extension and gives more value to some extensions ..

.org looks much better but you have to make sure your site is a business or organizational site, cuz if it's a personal site it doesn't look nearly right having a .org domain. Why not just go for net

Don''t know if it is true, but have heard that google is not too fund of .info domains because they are often associated with virus websites? I DON'T KNOW IF IT IS TRUE THOUGH! could be an urban legend :)

With good seo, both .info and .org can rank just as well as the other. .Org is more expensive whereas you can find good discounts for .info. .Org is more popular and .info is frequently used by spammers because they are cheaper.

We use to dabble with .info some. Prime keywords are more likely available and it seemed like a cool extension, saying that it has information on the subject. However, in recent years enough eBooks and such from "Gurus" has convinced us to drop them and stick with the .com,.net, and .org, because of the SEO. Also, ideally, a .org is suppose to be similar to a .edu or .gov in that it should be an organization. I guess supposedly non-profit and there for not as likely to skew info for profit, IDK.

Anyhow, we do not do .info anymore at all, but will accept a .org if the other two are unavailable.

On the other hand, saw a domain being sold here on DP the other day that was .info and it was on the first page of Google for it's keyword...

You can definitely go for .org. Had a hard time using .info. So there is no way I would suggest you .info.
