Correct URL structure for SEO

    I have a website with a generic keyword domain, e.g. generic.com

    There are many good keyword phrases based on that keyword, e.g.

    generic food
    generic dogs
    generic hairstyles

    etc..

    In the interests of SEO, would a good URL structure (for the keyword phrase 'generic food') be:

    http://www.generic.com/food

    or rather:

    http://www.generic.com/generic-food

    The first option doesn't repeat any keywords, but the second option has the page URL matching the keyword phrase.

    What are your suggestions?

    Intuitively I'd say option one is better because shorter urls and domainname-keyword > URL keyword anyways

    The question you should be asking is would that help me rank better in the serps? well it might and it might not.also it was not clear to me if you are talking here on individual articles (pages) or a category and a sub category?

    Yes, will it rank better in the serps. I'm talking about individual articles optimized for that particular keyword phrase.

    please promote your site with specific url so please use generic-food...make sure always keep your url with in 100 characters according to Google norms..

    Very good question ! well according to me the 2nd one is right, your url should be represent the basic idea of your content page. so ideology says go with "generic-food".
