Hi guys, I have an important question for you today: What's better.. Do you choose to target a High Monthly traffic keyword phrase - even if the number of competitiors is big.. Or Do you prefer the low traffic keywords with low competitors number?? Best, David
not high nor low competitive keywords.. it should be medium competition so that it would be easy to rank in a considerable time period.
I'm in the medium-popular camp here Still, it's hard to judge in general: if you have wikipedia and similar sites as competitors, it's not worth bothering. If the competitors are not very strong, it might be worth a try. Before you make a decision, analyze your competitors for (1) highly-competitive, (2) medium-competitive and (3) low-competitive keywords. The main things to check are: - content quality - backlinks - marketing strategies.
Yep... medium here... as most people get depressed looking at competitive keywords where it could literally take years to compete seriously. I tend to go for high volume and medium competitiveness. But also dont forget to analyse why your competitors are ranking where they are... do they have millions of backlinks etc?
I prefer low competitive keyword with high search volume....lol Seriously, the keyword volume shall at least more than 10k per month, and it can either be high or medium competitive, never go for high competitive keyword at least you have big team or big budget
I try the google adwords tools for measuring the traffic and i choose the high competition keywords for my website and i wonder the keywords will come just in 1 month, but the traffic was only 5 visits per day...i don't think google adwords is right for choosing and measuring keywords.
How old is your site? If newish, I'd start the ranking process with longtail KWs with low competition and build up from there. You will find after a few weeks or months, that Google might also be ranking you for more competitive KWs in your content. Use Analytics and webmaster tools to check on the KWs being used to find your site and start targeting those KWs. After all Google is already sending traffic, so you might as well boost it with your own efforts.
This's a Great, Cool approach! I'll do it In fact, actually, I have my long tail kw with many pages competing for it according to the results Google shows.. When I enter: my keyword phrase in the Google search box.. it shows >> about 1 900 000 results. BUT the cool thing is most of the sites ranking first in Google for this long tail kw are simple blogs with few pages, even an ezine article ranking 3rd.. so no authority sites there Best, David
Start off with small non-competitive keywords. People tend to leave behind keywords generating 300-500 local monthly visits.
dude I go for fairly high comp keywords, i try to rank with other tyoes of content other than actually rank a site... like youtube or articles, if you can perfect one strategy then you are laughing. I always get my youtube videos ranked well
In some Projects as per need of clients I use competitive Keywords for ranking, it's also depend on your strategy how you wanna to rank your site..
Do you concider the number of pages competing for the keyword after you type it in google and see: about xxx xxx Results ? Or do you rank for it regardless of the results, big or small ?!
well actually you can use a highly competitive keywords, use it as a root keyword and add some variations to it. for example "Chocolate"(sample only) is a highly competive one you can add some variation if you want to use it and has high relevancy to your site. "Cheap Chocolate", "Free Chocolate" etc,.
I think it depends on your goals and/or business model. Some sites do very well ranking and competing for long tail keyword phrases. I feel it's a matter of assessing the competition, setting the right expectations (ie. if you're going for global monthly of 100K, then you might expect not to rank in the top 10 any time soon) and based on the competitive assessment, is ranking for that keyword something that you are skilled enough to do.
You want to target keywords that generate a lot of traffic and try to rank high for those keywords... some keywords might be very competitive, some might not be
Try to find that perfect balance. Long tail keywords with medium traffic are ideal as its very difficult to rank well for high competition words.
i'd go with this too, I try to avoid really big competitors that I cannot compete with. if there's just one monster competitor then I might still go for it as being #2-3 on G is well worth it. If theres 2 or 3 big sites then I don't bother.
Okay, cool! Does the number of Results given for the keyword showed by Google - below the Search field - matter ?
