What I’ve Learned From Selling Sites On Flippa

    Hey,
I wanted to apologize in advance if you find some mistakes in this article. English is only the 3rd language i've learned (still learning). But i did try to make it readable for you.

So guys, let us talk about selling websites on Flippa. For those of you who doesn’t know what that is, it’s a marketplace for selling web estate (mostly websites and domain names).

What I’m about to tell you might sound wrong or, maybe, controversial, but I believe that if you write something, it has to come from the heart. There is no point of being polite and “correct” when the truth is much different.

You Can Sell Anything For A Good Price On Flippa

Yes, that’s right; you can sell anything on Flippa and earn some good cash. Now I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking that that is a load of crap; that it is impossible to sell something that looks like it was made by a six year old. While I do agree that it is difficult to convince someone to buy an ugly website, but if you follow these rules, you may have a chance:

    • Most people aren’t really that smart when it comes to web estate.

I want you to think about that. People come on Flippa to buy websites that make money, have traffic or have some sort of potential. But what is potential? Isn’t that a relative term? How does a person, who is not really savvy when it comes to website appraisals, know if this particular web estate will become profitable someday? That’s right, he doesn’t. You can easily convince him or her that your website is EXACTLY what they need to make their life better. I will show you how to do that in a moment.

    • Folks like “shiny objects”

I couldn’t come up with a better title for this sub-point. What I’ve learned from my 2 year experience on Flippa, is that the more cool stuff you add, the more likely you can sell a website that hasn’t made a dime in its life.

Strategically placed items (pictures, ads, banners) can play a major role in the decision making, and it increases the chances of a positive outcome.

I want to show you what I mean:

The Love Secrets - This website was sold on Flippa for 160$. This is not my website (At this point of my life, I’m only focusing on SEO), but I know for a fact that it took this person 5-6 hours to build such a “masterpiece”. Looking at this website, do you believe that you could do better than that?

    • Make your description flow like a river

What do I mean by that: one of the reasons why a lot of auctions end without a sale is because of poorly written descriptions. I truly believe that your text must tell a story; it has to take the reader for a very beautiful journey - a journey of hope and prosperity.

Some rules you need to follow:

    • Keep your lines short
    • Don’t use complicated words
    • Create bullet points. People love that

I think this example works just fine (what’s written in italic is the description):

    Dear Friend,
Today i'm selling a great website that (has a great design / already (always include this word. It makes people think that this website will make even more) has made 5$ / already attracts 100 visitors per month)

Robert, Tell Me More About Your Website

Gladly, my friend. This website is great because:

    • It has a great design
    • It already made a few sales
    • It attracts a lot of traffic
    • Etc

There is no rule of thumb, but I would write 5-6 bullet points.
The next step is to make people believe that this website has more to offer. This is really powerful.

WOW Robert, that’s awesome. But do you have anything else to offer?

Of course, I’m really known for overdelivering on my offers.

As an example, let’s say you’ve set the BIN price to 200$.

If the final price will be 120 or over, you will get: (This is an awesome idea, because it will make people bid more actively when they approach this milestone)

    • 3 ebooks on Internet Marketing (worth 41$)
    • Thousand PLR Articles (worth 9$)
    • A premium theme (worth 63$)

Next we need to encourage people to buy your website for the BIN Price

If you buy this website (with all of its bonuses) for the BIN price, you will get:

I really hope you have something useful on your PC. Your BIN Bonuses must be really awesome. I used to sell a premium Wordpress plugin (I even bought a developer’s license).

    • A Premium Plugin that…. (worth 37$)
    • 5000 extra backlinks (Easy To Get On Fiverr)
    • I will keep this website on my server for a whole Year
    • Lifetime support

Next, you could add some testimonials (if you have any):

Here is what other people think about my services:

    • Robert is awesome. Overdelivered, as usual
    • Great seller
    • I want to have a baby from him

    End the description politely

If you will have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. If you are too shy, send me a PM.

    King regards,

    Robert

    ----Description Ends ----------

    • Writing Titles

I prefer to keep it simple. If my website is completely new, I would write something like this:

Great Design. Unique Content. SUPER Bonuses. No Reserve

If I’ve actually made some money, the title would look differently:

20$ / month. Unique Content and Great Design. Super Bonuses.

    • Upgrades

Well, I usually buy “Listing Title In Bold” or “Listing Row Highlighted”. It really depends on the money I’m expecting to get from this listing. If my BIN price is 400 or more, I would buy a Screenshot of my webpage.

How To Make Your Website More Valuable

Well, it does take time (although there is nothing what Fiverr can’t do) but a good idea would be to get a Twitter account with a 1000 or more followers. Also, get a Pro account at “Hoot Suite” to send bulk tweets.

You can automate your tweets (with a link pointing to your website) and easily attract 50-100 visitors per day. A good idea would be to add Adsense or CPA banners to your website. Who knows, maybe you will even monetize your blog before you sell it.

That’s about it. Hope you’ve enjoyed reading this article.

    King regards,

    Andrii from TryToLearnMore.com

Nice post, pretty interesting, dispite never buying/selling anything on Flippa, I see tons of amazing auctions, websites which you could create yourself in a matter of hours going for $200+, this is with no links etc. It's crazy the sort of people some of Flippa's users have and are willing to spend on terrible websites, but then you see amazing websites, great niches and crap sell for nothing, so it's a strange site to sell your website on, but I've never seen anything fail to sell.

Good point. I believe that if you sell a website for less than you expected, then it's a failure

Agreed, but that's the risk with auction websites, you don't know if your going to get what you want (Unless you put a reserve on it), probably the main reason I've never used Flippa is because I don't really wanna pay them to sell my website ha, if they were free, then they'd probably triple in traffic over night, but they're profits would be down a bit.

if you are not sure, sell your websites when they start making money. 10-30$ a month will bring you 120-350$ easily.

I have been thinking about selling sites on Flippa for a long time now, mostly because I don't want to do the backlinking work on sites, but I realize I need to do that anyway to make a good profit on Flippa, so that is what is holding me back.

Nice post you have here, I wish I'd read it before I posted my first listing on flippa. Though my listing is not doing well at all, I'll be sure to keep this post in mind when nest I try flippa again. How about selling websites here, how good are the prospects?

Thanks for your post, it has some really great points in it that can help people who are just starting out or who have been flipping sites for a while. Also, your English is quite good for being your 3rd language. :)

Thanks, you gave some really great advice. I planned on selling a few sites I own on flippa but was not sure how to capture buyers.

Really nice written tips (I really don't believe English is your third language!). You are quite correct to comment that people love nice word and glimpse of hope. Another thing that I must mention, your tips will be applicable not only for selling website, but in my opinion those tips are useful for selling any digital products.

I think saying that it's a failure if you don't get what you expected out of it is not a good way to look at it. Consider it a learning experience... :)
