Alexa & India? Why?

    Hello.


    I am sorry if this is the wrong section but i have a question.


    Most sites i go to have a ranking in India (Alexa).

    Why is that? Why do those Owners choose India? Does it matter?


    I have Nothing against Indians and i am sorry if i have offended anyone.

    maybe those are hosted in India or its been optimizing in India.

    it just means lot of indians have alexa toolbar installed, thats all. alexa ranking is based on how many people having alexa toolbar installed visited a site.

    Alexa only reflects the demographics of those who have Alexa toolbar installed in their browser.

    It's not about choosing India. There is nothing to choose in alexa. It shows the actual data as is. That means the sites you are looking in alexa having most of their visitors/traffic from India. That is why you are seeing India. And not exactly the reason as i said. There may be a chance "that in which country the website is being hosted or the owner of the website residing country".

    but no one in our circle using alexa toolbar, how come google can rank our website (our local website which has traffic only from our city). It seems, alexa having the source directly from the ISP's (world wide). Because it shows the data some think like this too "Estimated percentage of global internet users who visit example.com"

    Many SEO companies outsorce bulk of their work to India, as a result, there are loads of people in India working in SEO, e.g. doing directory submission, and they all have Alexa toolbar installed.
    I used to run a web directory which had it's worldwide Alexa rank jumped from about 20,000,000 to 35,000 in 3 months. Rank in India was within 3000.

    What does the toolbar do to the ranking? Is it a method of increasing ranking :confused:?



    What if the site doesn't have a toolbar?

    The toolbar is not for the site. The toolbar is for the browser with witch the user visits your site. Alexa can count only the users tht have the toolbar installed on theier browser.

    There is nothing you can do on your site, but tu get more traffic and see the result in alexa.

    The toolbar is installed in a browser, during installation user is asked to supply some personal details, such as age, gender, etc.
    Then, whenever a website is loaded in a browser having toolbar installed, the toolbar (or plugin if you like) will send this data to a database, which is used by Alexa to calculate traffic rank, summarize demographics, etc.
