A few minutes ago, I just posted another post and I made sure all links were correct. I made sure no link was masked or was an affiliate link.

Yet, a few minutes after I posted, I got an infraction and the post was removed. Do you see how this works?

Am I being instantly hunted or what?

What crime did I commit this time? I didn't break any rules.

    Here's the reason given

I posted in the forum I was advised to post in (on another thread in this forum) and I made sure they were not affiliate links.

Show me what I did wrong!

Affiliate links are more than just links posted here. If you send someone to a site with affiliate links, with the intention that they click your affiliate links, it's not allowed.

This site is not for spamming affiliate links (or landing pages for affiliate link spam).

For one time's sake, she's right about it. I've seen the offender posting affiliate links.

I feel like I'm having a conversation with a 5 year old. Everything you say is taken literally.

"You said to go to bed. You didn't say I had to get IN bed and go to sleep, only that I need to go to my bed."

"You said affiliate links aren't allowed. You didn't say a link to a page for the sole purpose is affiliate spam isn't allowed."

Let's try to move beyond literal meanings and instead try to grasp concepts.

Well I haven't been active for almost 10 months. Then I come back, make a post in the Suggestion/Feedback forum and suddenly several Moderators have enough time to read through several 100 posts of mine up to 1 years old and dig for every single little dirt possible.
That simply shows some moderators really do like to play big brother and have enough time to go through several 100 posts up to 3 years back of one single user.
Are you telling me that's a normal community managing behavior? Come on Shawn, you're the founder and owner of the board, you're active every day and from the looks it seems the number 1 complaint reason are the infractions given out. At some stage you have to notice that your moderators are being over protective and hand out unreasonable infractions.

Tell me, what is the point if sending out infractions for tiny mistakes that users have made 1 to 3 years back? You can't possibly be that blind not to see that this is a big brother like behavior used in China and North Korea.

Actually, that's exactly how I saw it. If it says no affiliate links, then that does not mean that I can't put affiliate sites on the resulting site.

If I make a post about gardening and lead them to my authority site about gardening, yet it has affiliate links in the banners on that site, will you catch me for that too? How far do you go? When is too far, too far?

2 infractions were for posts made on Jan 7th 2012. The other was for March 2011. I can see that may have been a little overzealous but its hardly trawling 3 years back. Only you can see your infractions, they do expire.

If the affiliate links are related to the deal you are offering then they're not allowed. It's really, really simple. You can't promote your affiliate links in your posts.

If you owned empowernetwork and were promoting it directly then that would be fine. However its not yours, nor are you employed by it.

Your affiliate links can go in your signature and thats all.

Mods are dealing with tons of spam and the are having a hard time - maybe sometimes they mess up... but guys, give the mods a break - they are also humans..

We have a section helpfully called "affiliate programs" where you can "discuss" the empower network. Any links you give must be to them directly and not affiliate links.

It might be a good time to point out that if you say "read about it on my site" then that is spam which gets 5 points that hang around for 6 months.

Didn't you tell me to post it in the buy, sell trade section for opportunities?

Oh, I thought you wanted to "talk about" empower network. Discussions happen in the main part of the forum - find the appropriate section and go for it. I'm sure there are others equally enamored by the empower network who will want to discuss them with you.

You'd only post in the Buy/Sell/Trade section if you had something to sell, which you don't.

The only place you can promote your affiliate link is in your signature.

I definitely agree with the fact that updates via PM should be sent for controversial infractions or your own threads deleted. Mods should be more open about their actions when they take disciplinary action such as deleting on of your threads.

Can I reference my affiliate link in my signature in the post I make?

Which section is appropriate to explain the empower network?

We have better things to do with our time.

Your post is fine but I don't understand why you didn't give a link to the site you were discussing (as we've said over and over, clean links are ok). Hoping you'd beat them in the serps when people googled?

I'd rather you didn't put a link there at all.

My link does a better job of explaining it than the official site.
