MetaTags and KeyWords:
Metatags and Keywords are some codes that you add to your site for search engines to recognize your site and what it's talking about.
Now to the codes :

<meta name="Description" content="Some nice templates and specialists waiting to help you building your CV ">
( The description will appear under your title in the search engine results )
<meta name="Keywords" content="cv, guide, building cv, interview, career">
( The words you want your site appear when searched for them )
These are the most important onpage seo practices but absolutely not all of them, there are mane techniques and codes you may use and there specialists in such a field , I recommend reading SEO Made Easy , it's an amazing e-book talking about seo techniques.

Offpage SEO
Now , it's time to start offpage SEO, most of Search Engine optimizers are telling that Offpage seo is the most important, that doesn't mean that onpage seo is wasting time , it also has to be done, but what will really make you feel the difference and high page rank and as a result 1st results on search engines is offpage seo.
As I mentioned before we can shortcut whole the process with one unique word , it's BACKLINKS.
In brief , backlinks are links in other sites linking to you.
why are backlinks so important??
Most search engine algorithms thinking that backlinks pointing to the importance of your site , in other words , when there is many sites linking to you that means your site has wonderful , original and important content.
As a result your deserve to be on the first page of the search results unless it is the first result.
What parameters it depends on?
There are two paremeters that affects directly your backlinks and as aresult your search results:
1- Anchor text : it is the word displaying in other sites that is hyperlinked to your site.
For example , search google for the word "click here" , you will find adobe has the first result, although the whole page of adobe.com doesn't contain the word "click here".
But there is millions of pages that using adobe links under the word "click here" , I think you got it.
So you must put the anchor text in your consideration, try to make all your backlinks have your keywords.
2- PR of sites linking to you : It is another important thing that must be taken in consideration.
PR : page rank of the sites is pointing also to their importance so, if high page rank ( important ) site is pointing to your site , that means your site is also important and must have good page rank and consequently high rank in search results.
It's clear that there is valuable backlinks and useless backlinks, when you have a backlink in site that has no page rank it doesn't refering that your site is important at all and vice versus.

The Description you set in the meta has no effect on your ranking in Google. If Google does decide to show your Description as the snippet in results, the only benefit it gives you is in possibly achieving a higher CTR to your site (no affect on where you rank). - http://goo.gl/H8ZWv

Your meta stuff is not your most important On Page SEO. Meta Keywords are not used by Google. Meta Description is sometimes used, but only for the search snippet, not for ranking. Title is the only thing that is used. Title is indeed important, but it doesn't carry much weight in rankings when you compare it to actual on page content.

Off Page SEO is important, but less and less so each year. Google continues to devalue Off Page SEO, pushing more and more towards a focus on content and the usefulness of a well designed site. Panda was a big shock to a lot of sites. It was a big and sudden change that focused on putting quality in a higher position of importance. It also downgraded the value of PageRank, making it a less important factor in Google SERP.

The point about anchor text is quite good and shows that it does have a notable impact. The rest though applies to an earlier time in the world of SEO, unless you are trying to appease the search engines that operate on ancient algorithms still and draw a much smaller number of searches per year.

while doing Off-Page optimization make sure that you are use only white hat techniques , black hat may harm the rankings.

 

That is fine in me. What I do not like was the Google instant. It ruined my SERP rankings.

Seo only supports the original and unique content so, one should go for white hat SEo and must ignore black hat seo because in case it was caught by Google , you will be in trouble.
