both techniques are best, and SMO is considered as a part of SEO. THou, not many people support SMO techniques, but I found it is quite effective. SMO is also used for ORM as well as backlinks, one can generate enough backlinks for site through LINK WHEEL techniques, it also helps to drive traffic to your website and helps to showcase your expertise in area. If social networking sites are properly used then one can generate quite a good amount of hits for there site.... First you have to increase the friends in your profile than do facebook commenting and sharing your posts..than you will get lot of traffic..this is also applied for twitter.
