    It depends on the group topic. I have seen some groups like "if there will be xxx people in this group I will give a laptop to one of them". People who join such group are motivate to invite their friends (because they want see xxx people in this group to get a chance to win the laptop).

    If you create a group about something like nuclear power, you cannot expect too much members even if you pay thousands for advertising :)

    I own a facebook (authenticated by facebook) fan page with over 1.4 million (and growing) fans and I did not spend a dime in creating it. It is attached to my website. You need a product or website that is fun and engaging. If it is a good page friends will tell friends and it will grow. It is an extreemly valuable marketing tool and drives tens of thousands of uniques traffic everyday. Work hard and you will be rewarded.

    @bulldogg32 is right

    you can either create it yourself for free.. Or pay someone to come up with a great idea

    I think that what people don't realize is it really is all about the perfect headline.

    There used to be a client who wants to pay $5 for 5,000 members invitation. But I think that's if you have the budget, if not, I do agree with bulldogg.

    @bulldogg32
    what is your fan page? I'd like to see it and probably join it too :)

    Well I want to do this not for my page, but for a page of the show "Chuck". It only has about 50k fans, and NBC is considering cancelling the show. I thought maybe if I got 500k fans to it NBC would see a huge fanbase. I wouldn't want to spend a lot of money though

    I love how you question everything you hear. This person owns a high traffic arcade web site and he doesn't need to prove anything to you. the URL is irrelevant to the topic.

    It depends on the service charging you, ofcourse the big problemis how much of those Facebook fans are real users, and are interested in your product or services?

    The market rate for this is around $8000-$10000 but I can offer you this amount of fans at a price of $5000.

    Don't "buy fans". Invest in natural growth, it's the most effective way to build a targeted fanbase, despite what you may read.

    I've actually had some great success with Facebook ads, depending on your niche you can often get your ad to run for just $0.01/click and these are coming from super targeted visitors, which have been selected by sex, age, interests, etc. Research this for your niche and see it it would be a cost effective method.

    I agree, don't buy fans. Whats the point? You can't force people to like your page.

    Make a good page and give people reason to join. Then participate in discussion on related pages. This has got me 7,000 fans, 1000 fans, and my new page today....3 fans! :)

    Are we speaking hypothetically, or are you looking to for that size of an engaged audience? You could just build an awesome MMORPG like WoW then market to them. That is how Blizzard did it :D

    No need to pay that much amount for facebook fans. You can do it by your own or you can do it by someone's good idea.
    Just pay him for their good idea that helps you to increase facebook fans to your fans page.
