I have just completed a huge campaign for my latest website, and I am trying to find an effective way to check backlinks. Google Webmasters tools and Yahoo Site Explore give me different answers. Which one is most reliable for SEO?..

Now Yahoo Site Explore also shut down so where i get maximum backlinks...

Since Google’s backlink checker does not provide a full list of backlinks, try Google Webmaster Tools instead. If you want you can also consider some other backlink tools. However, I think GWT is much better.

    Guys,

    I use two tools.

    1) Google webmasters.
    2) Open site explorer.

Both are excellent tools and provide much data to do analysis of competitors.

    Thanks

There is no way to accurately measure backlinks. Look forward and build more links not backward at was, may have, or possibly has already been completed.

Do you try ahrefs.com and Link Assistant (free version can check 1000 back-links)?

I often use ahrefs.com to check back-links, it's very useful.

I use a mixture of Webmaster tools, BackLinkWatch and Ahrefs.com (free version is pretty restricted but still gives some useful info). Unfortunately they all tend to give different answers...but I think its as accurate a picture that you're going to get.

As others have said, there is no accurate way to check your backlinks. Google never give you the whole picture. The best thing to do is not obsess about number of links but to concentrate on creating organic backlinks on a regular basis using your keywords.

linkdomain:URL and set search results to 100. Another way is to scrub the BL list you built (assuming you kept track of each) and manually review. I beleive there is software that helps, but I have no experience with this.

You can use Backlinkwatch.com as an alternative for Yahoo Site Explorer as both gives same result.

Personally I trust more on backlinks showing in Google Webmaster tools.

Google's WMT only shows a sample of your known back links as does the LINK: operator at Google. So there is no tool at Google that will give you a good list of back links.

The best tool is probably Majestic SEO. They have been crawling the web for almost 5 years maintaining a link graph. Tools like Market Samuria and Raven Tools all use Majestic SEO to pull back link data now that Yahoo! Site Explorer is dead. The data in Majestic SEO is FAR better than Yahoo! Site Explorer ever was. There is no 1000 back link limit. You can get dumps of literally hundreds of thousands of back links. Majestic SEO provides the most exhaustive list of back links for sites of all the back link tools on the web. The back link reports give you all kinds of link related data... source URL, follow vs. nofollow, image link vs text link, if text link then anchor/link text, if image link then alt attribute value, date back link first discovered, etc. It's definitely worth the monthly cost.

The 2nd best tool is probably SEOmoz's Site Explorer.

Since Yahoo Site Explorer is no more you would have to sign up wit Bing, but generally Yahoo Site Explorer (or the new Bing reformation) gives more insight than GWT
