    As much i know there are two types of site-map presesnts

    Html/php sitemap for users
    Xml site map for Search Engine

    Is it possible to create common sitemap for users and search engine .

    It is not possible to create common sitemap for search engines and users because search engine's sitemap is very simple page and they can understand it easily while sitemap for users is not simple because you put some things in left, some in right, some are bold, some are underlines etc.

    A sitemap for users is just another page (html) on your website which lists all the pages of the website, for your users to navigate to the right part easily.

    A sitemap for search engines is a file which you submit so the search engine will crawl your whole site and content, in case there are some new pages or obscure pages which it can't find. Google will allow sitemap submission in .txt files as well as .xml - read the help section for sitemaps on Google's Webmaster Tools, it's pretty straight forward.

    Sitemap is used to crawl your required URL's of the website for search engines. If your website doesn't have sitemap then search engine crawls all of your necessary and unnecessary link of the website which could be the cause of low rank for high priority links.

    An HTML sitemap allows site visitors to easily navigate a website. Purpose behind creation of Html sitemap is to get viewed all pages from user. Xml sitemap is mainly created for search engines to get all pages indexed fast.

    1st of all I want to know why you are looking for a single sitemap. Any way if you have a website it's always good to keep a sitemap page extension of either html, php or asp etc... and another one is sitemap.xml that is for search engine to crawl your pages easily and collect the data about your new content and new page. If some time you miss to place your new page link in to sitemap.html page then also sitemap.xml wil automatically can fetch and add in to xml sitemap list. if you do any changes to URL structure by putting an 301 or added new page then it's a best practice to udate sitemap.xml page and put in to root folder. Simultaneously need to update the sitemap.xml page in GWT.

    Don't plan for a additional implementation to do without a sufficient justification for that.

    one is for the user to see and the other one is for the search engine so it can rank you and see the type of content you have.
