What good is it to get a high PR other than the fact that you can probably sell advertising space at a higher price. How do you benefit? Does it effect search engine listings? And how much more weight do you need to go from one PR to another?
Well yeah, but from what I've heard sometimes it isn't something good to go by. Well, I do guess that depends. mainly I was wondering how much weight does it take to move from one PR to another.
If you look at the PR formula, this would only apply if there is only one outbound link on these pages. If there are two links, you only get half the effect, if there are three you only get 1/2 of the effect and so on. Plus, there are other factors that go into a calculation of PR as well. Ex: If you get a site-wide link 36 PR4 internal pages ....... you won't get a PR5 or a PR6. You'll only get a PR4 at the most (if the home page of that site is a PR5). So, there are heaps of other factors now in calculating PR. These factors can either increase or discount the value of a link. Ex: A PR4 link from a PR7 site is way better than a PR4 link from a PR5 site and so on. minstrel: If you are reading this thread, the above statements are based on historic data for websites that I used to take care of and some that I still do. OK?? I thought I might answer your question before you start questioning my findings.
By the way, just FYI, I don't disagree at all with most of your comments about "transferring PR" through links, or about the number of outbound links affecting how much PR is "transferred".
