Yes, article submission is effective and useful techniques, but I can't say that best techniques, it will depend on the content because content is very important and relevant links, it should be fresh content and unique so that can attract to others and they will link, it's helpful to get a good result.

 

The way people ususally do article submission, it sucks. Article marketing works very well if u do it right, sadly most people do it wrong.

That said there are many ways to build links, this is just one of them.

Nowadays submitting to article directories doesn't help as much as it used to, since these are links from sites with non-relevant topics, and Google weights tons more links from sites in your niche. A single link from a site in your niche can be worht 100s if not 1000s of links from article directories.

I know someone who went from #74 to #8 with only 1 link from an authority site in his own niche. You might get that same result after several 100s of submissions in article directories. Relevancy and authority are the ways to get quality backlinks. Article directories pages are mostly PR0 and non-relevant, so the links you get from there are very low value.

Premium links from guest posting in authority sites of your own niches are worth tons, aim for those. Make case studies and submit them as guest posts. Those links are worth 1000s of crappy article directory links.
