    i don't think that's a black hat trick... it's okay if u give ur site with gov or edu backlink... because google likes .gov and .edu CMIIW

    They might have used some blackhat techniques to get those links.

    But, having those link doesn't prove they used blackhat techniques.

    It's not black hat (unless they buy those links)

    Anyway, .gov and .edu backlinks are not just important because "they ARE .gov or .edu". It just happens that those sites are usually very authoritative and have tons of quality links. Other sites with the same authority are as effective for backlinks even if they're not .gov or .edu.

    Usually it's easier for these sites to rank as "authority" sites within Google though.

    For example, a site, lets say gogettechtips.info - has 50 articles on technical support. Still PR1. Not yet an "authority" within Google.
    An .EDU blog with 10 blog post, harvard.edu/blog/gogettechtips, would usually be more authoritative and beneficial to backlink from within Google.
