Hi ,i have a blog http://sharethetricks.blogspot.com ,which is all about Technology and Telecom ,and i got page rank 4 this panda update, i would like to move to custom domain, i'm afraid of loosing the PR as well as search engine indexing or traffic, but some bloggers says that "PR will be retained after one or two months back to the previous position it was" so is it true ? what can you suggest me to do.. Thanks in Advance >>
I think that PR will come back, but having all your pages reindexed with proper rank might be tricky. I think a 301 redirect would be your best bet when switching to a new domain.
Recently I changed my blogspot blog to custom domain. The blog was at PR2. I purchased a domain for 11dollars and used the blogger free host facility. It is explained clearly in blogger.com.After the change over the blogs rank reduced to N/A. Now after few weeks the rank rose to PR0. I don't know what is 301 transfer as mentioned AznRico. If it is explained by somebody, that would be a great help.
Without a doubt you'd most definitely see a drop in SERP. Your site will also have to be reindexed by Google, which will take time. And as AznRico said proper 301 redirect should be done in order to pass all the link juice. In order to do proper 301 redirect check Google Webmaster Link
Thanks @Gautham for pointing the fact..i have to go for a decision,bt its very hard for me..whether can i move to custom domain now itself or else a little later...
I assume you are not familiar with 301 redirect and its impact etc, i would recommend you to wait until you get sufficient knowledge on the same, no offense. Anyway it's your decision, i've no control over it.
As mentioned by otheres the 301 redirect is your best bet. I suggest you do a few google searches and reading though before trying it. Just makesure you fully understand how it works etc.
You gotta wait for the next PR update to gain the PR 301 is a permanent redirect, if you are using blogger, just follow the instruction by blogger, they already redirect 301 to your custom domain
If you are using Google Webmaster Tools. Then add your new custom domain there. You will get better and quick results. If you are not using Google Webmaster Tools. Then first create an account and add your .blogspot.com there at first and wait for google to scrol your pages. Then latter you can add your site.
As with the quality of content as to what is published with on your blog page. With going for and moving the content over to the new blog page it would be able to get the existing PR 4 like as your old page had....
