Which Social Network to Lead With

    Hello all,

New user here, and still trying to find my way in the jungle of site promotion. A question for the more experienced heads here:

Which of the big social networks is the best to promote a particular website.

Should I focus on Facebook, and from that hope the Twitter followers will come naturally, and then the organic traffic will follow ultimately, or should I lead with Twitter, posting regular references to Facebook / my site?

Im currently tempted to post a link to my site in all my Tweets, but will that count against me in the Search Engine Rankings.

    thanks a lot,

    EA

There's no reason you shouldn't use Facebook and Twitter at the same time. Though if you're hoping SM will boost your organic traffic, it probably won't. Invest some time/money into SEO as well.

Afaik links from social media sites don't affect search engine rankings (currently) so I can't imagine that linking that much in your Tweets would either help or harm you.

It might annoy your followers though, and thus, lose you followers. I wouldn't recommend linking more than is necessary.

Thanks for that. I am such a newbie that I didnt realise that the Social Media sites didnt count for backlinks and so on. Have done a bit of reading, and this is the whole "No Follow" / "Do Follow" nonsense isnt it.

I'll have a look into more "organic" methods as you indicate, and I suspect that these will have longer-term benefits.

    thanks for your help

Im not sure I agree, I have created a product page, but apart from the info section, its not terribly easy to make the links to the core page, or the purchasing page.

they all just seem a little too concealed for my liking.

Why not go after twitter and Facebook at the same time? You can even link your accounts to make it easier

    hi
use both twitter and facebook, but biggest advantage of using twitter is there is no limit of persons you follow, so its good to follow and to followed on twitter.

If you start with blog then may focus more on twitter.
Twttier users mostly like to read something and tweet something that they feel useful.

If you start with company website then do focus more on facebook.
Facebook users tend to be more open which they like to see video and image sharing.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

so from a backlink point of view, are there any of the social sites that are "do follow"? I like chatting as much as the next guy, and would love to turn this into a more "productive" activity.

otherwise its a fine line between acceptable and "spammy" behaviour.

LinkedIn has far reaching impact as far as the traffic is concerned. The social networks like FB, G+ and Twitter are famous with the people but still LinkedIn serves the purpose in a decent way.

If someone is seriously looking for business development there is no substitute to LinkedIn. It has far more extended opportunities that could be remarkably well for the online business traffic. I have compared traffic from Twitter, Facebook and linkedIn and am happy with the results.
