why low traffic if site is on top rank

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by shilpivi, Dec 5, 2011.

My site is getting number 1 rank in google.com with some keywords that have search volume(I checked in Google' keyword research tool) but the visits from the same keyword is just 2 or 4. What could be the possible reason for the same and how could i increase traffic from the same keywords?

    Many thanks in advance.

It may be because of the demand for that phrase is not very high. Do some keyword research. Generally, when you rise up in the rankings, you will see your traffic grow too.

One thing to keep in mind though is that the benefit will be in proportion to the popularity of the term--if there are not that many people searching for the term, then being ranked #1 can only get you as much traffic as there are searchers for that term. The traffic you receive is dependent on how "in demand" that term is--how many people are searching for it.

Number 1 spot? I don't think so.. if you are on number 1 spot then you should be getting lots of traffic.. I bet you we're logged in to your gmail account that's why your keyword is on page 1 on Google.

You might want to check to see if you're number one from another computer or your phone. It might just be your custom search you're number one on.

I have checked the search volume(exact match) - 480(local), the page is also working fine, Still have online 2 or 4 searches monthly with that keywords. the keyword rank in last four months was:

    Sep - 7
    Oct - 6
    Nov - 2
    Dec - 1

what else can i look for to know the actual cause?

I suggest you check the keyword you're ranking for. I'm guessing that keyword has a very low global monthly search value. You might want to check your keywords again. You might also want to take a look at the description for the pages that are ranking for your keywords. Are they interesting and informative? Does it compel users to click on your instead of your competitor's?

Hope that helps. Have a good day!

In general scenario 70 % clicks you get in the first keyword position in the google. After remaining percentage distribute to second and third ranked in google. So i think it is not possible you get only 3 or 4 visit only for the 1st ranked keyword in google.

i think you should do some research on your keyword, because id your ranking in no 1 position means there is no popularity of the keyword,

Choosing keywords with low volume or global search will definitely result to the problem pointed out. However, if your chosen keyword has a good number of global searches then try checking if you are still on the first spot. Being on the first spot doesn't mean you will be staying there forever.
