    1. On-page
    2. Off-page
    3. Keeping up with the industry changes

    I would say not matter where you learn make sure you follow
    Research -> Learn -> Implement -> Review -> Analyse -> Research -> [continues the cycle]

    You concentrate on Off page work as you are learner. Make good link building by using various SEO techniques such as blog commenting, Social bookmarking, Directory submission etc. When you are expert in off page work then start on page work also.

    First start with On Page and in that you can start with Meta Tags, Image alt text, H1 tags, internal linking, content quality.

    In my opinion first of all you go on google.There are many website are available.Like seo book, seomoz and other.Check it and try on it.Its beneficial for you.

    There are two important factors in SEO namely On Page Optimization for meta tags, headings, alt tags, keyword optimization, and content while Off Page Optimization is the process of building links through web 2.0 sites.

    Firstly put your keywords in all of your page, in meta, images, header text, etc, just don't go overboard and make it unreadable. Then use validator dot w3 dot org to make sure your site is error free. After that start building backlinks, takes time but go for the good quality ones

    Make sure your website is for the people (not for the search engines) in the first place. If your site brings value to the visitors and your content is fresh and unique, everything else will follow
