I heard somewhere that as of now there is no such tool that can give you the results as close as Yahoo SE did in the past. Waiting too for a good tool/reply...

yahoo site explorer is now close due to merging of yahoo search algorithm with MSN/BING, I also use backlink watch and seocentro to check my links.

I mostly use scrapebox to check my backlinks. Just tried opensiteexplorer but indeed only a few dozen links showed up.

Yes it is very sad news for all SEOs that yahoo site explorer closed now but i think there are a lot of backlink checker tools (free) on the web for example i use watchbacklinks dot com it is also very good, free and reliable backlink checker.

I'm sad too that siteexplorer is gone.
    Two alternatives:

    majesticseo.com
    Baidu Spider (Seo Quake Toolbar)

Here are some of the backlink tools I use and like:

    OpenSiteExplorer.org
Blekko.com (search "domain" /seo) or (search "domain" /inbound)
    MajesticSEO.com

Spydermate.com (I haven't used this one yet but I saw a demo at Pubcon and it pulls in everyones data...looks good).

Also, like everyone else mentioned, if your looking at your own backlinks and not a competitors, your Google webmaster central should report a good amount of your backlinks.

I would say majesticseo as the best alternative to Y! They have over 1 Trillion urls crawled and their index size is the closest to Google.

There is no such replace of yahoo site explorer. Every data that we see as backlinks are crawled by search engine spiders. The most giant spiders that's capable enough to crawl almost every backlinks of yours belongs to Google and Yahoo (now at bing). Other search engines or meta search engines even get datas from these major search engines and display it over their search result page.

So guys make this very clear that if these giants doesn't provide any option for users or developers then, no other tool or search engine can afford to present such a huge volume of data.

Thus the days of watching backlinks of other websites are gone and that's the reality.

I have been looking into it myself. So far, OSE seems the best choice. Those who can afford it could of course go for SEOMoz or SEC ockpit, but those are really expensive options...
