They ask me to leave else the suspend my account

Hostgator services is very good, i haven't faced any problem in last 6 months of using their service. As I have a shared account so you have to be watchful about the resources your hosted websites will use. They have 50,000 inode limit (files), so they will warn you if you cross that limit or maybe suspend your account and ask you to upgrade to Dedicated Server, besides that no complain :)

they are very good as long as your website asks heavy resources (big forums etc), then you should go for VPS or dedicated server hosting

but for 95% of the website they are great, i use them myself!
i've used lunarpages earlier but hostgator is much more stable and faster

Even i have started using HG. Using my friends account who actually is not using it anymore as his websites were having too much load on the server. As of now i only get around 100 visits a day for my sites so all is fine.

Maybe it's just me but over the past 5 years I've seen hundreds and hundreds of forum posts saying "I use HG, and I highly recommend them" on a regular basis, juts about wherever there was a hosting related discussion. Makes me believe their marketing team has been doing great promoting the service. Coincidentally or not, many of those cherishing HG were users with few posts and low forum activity (just like in this tread for instance) and that was generating second thoughts about the reliability of their feedback comments.

I'm rather leaned towards listening to those complaining about their accounts being threatened with locking due to "high load put on the servers". What does HG expect a customer to buy their "unlimited" plan for? A 5-page corporate webstie that receives 10 visitors per month?

On the other side, many comments bashing 1AND1 and GoDaddy hosting. My personal experience of hosting with GD since 2005 and 1AND1 since 2006 has proved those "godaddy is a horrible web host" kind of theories wrong. Never had a serious problem with them, I rarely needed to get in touch with their support but then I did, I was receiving satisfactory treatment from their crew.

I happened to lose 3 of my domains to 1AND1, that's the only negative experience I've ever had with these guys. Other than that, all good. I never had a single email from GD or 1AND1 telling or even suggesting me to "switch to VPS or leave".

The only real issue I've seen with Hostgator was lack of PCI Compliance. Their servers were not PCI compliant (back in December 2009), so client had to move to a more secure PCI compliant web host in order to stop the credit card company from fining them for non-compliance.

    Best Wishes,
    Jim

Nope. Tried them and they really stink. That was about 6 years ago. I wouldn't host there again even if it was free..

I have had nothing but good expeirences with their CS, which is a nice change from some other hosts. They seem to be cheap and effective.

I don't use Hostgator for any of my own accounts, but I have a client who insists on using them. They're a real headache for me. Her site is down quite a lot, and we're constantly having to contact support to get simple things enabled. Last year, they disabled HTTP_GET without warning, which caused lots of problems for us.

    I really don't recommend them.

If you are planning to use vbseo, and your site gets any traffic, I would not recommend them. They over-sell their servers and they are not designed to run busy forums.

The only thing with Hostgator is they are very strict when it comes to CPU and Mysql usage so be careful as I myself have had a site or two removed. But overall I have had a good experience with them.
