There are hundreds of minor changes to the Google algorithm each year. Currently they have been focusing on the Panda update which seems to get run every 4-6 weeks. There is a lot of talk about the Panda update online, but it is basically meant to weed out websites with low quality content or insufficient unique content.

As Google made the announcement on July 26 that Panda 2.3 was officially up and running, the scraper sites that were gaining higher ranking through poor and copied content have been apprehensive. Every one of the Panda's updates has filtered out more and more low-quality websites or "scraper" sites from the list of high-ranking websites as the panda is paying more attention to the ranking factor than the algorithm change.

It is my impression that the most recent Panda update is focusing on custom content creation. Make it your own and update it frequently with new information. Blogs are great for this type of ranking requirement.

They have been making a lot of Panda updates and applying their new metrics or what not. I remember the last of my sites were affected on Nov. 14th, PR increased as my content is pretty solid :). I think we'll continue to see more and more "user-quality" algorithm updates be applied, that is truly their long-term focus.

Last week at Pubcon Matt Cutts hinted that Google might be hitting websites that over use Ads and/or block content with Ads i.e. pop overs and ads that push content below the fold, etc. Google recently mentioned that they can now execute AJAX & JavaScript for indexing which is pretty big news. Also, like mentioned above, continuous Panda updates.

Here's some good reads from Search Engine Land I'd suggest reading:

Yes Google has recently revealed about its 10 changes (out of 500 changes it makes in its algorithm every year). You can type this "Google reveals how it ranks websites" & google it.

The basics are still the same.
I keep updated with all the new stuff, and aside from slight modifications I haven't really changed my strategy drastically for the past 3-4 years, and I have been successful with it. Its the same idea really.

It seems that Google has done a major updation in terms of Algorithm. After caffeine web indexing, Google has also made the online search secured for those Gmail login users. This will restrict Google analytic from being able to capture complete statistics of the website.
