My site is higher PR as compared to another site but lower in SERP. My site is PR3 but the competitor's is PR0. How can I overcome that?

High PR will benefit you to rank high in the SERP's if you compete for the same keyword as your competitors. Since you have a high PR already you have a higher chance to outrank the lower PR even if they are ranking number one. This is because you have higher credibility in the eyes of the search engine. All you have to do is to identify the exact keywords your competitors are using and optimize for that. The reason you are ranking under a low PR probably because they are targeting and highly optimizing for that exact keyword or you're not really focusing to rank for that specific keyword. A good example when one of my site is ranking number one and I highly targeted a specific niche where I beat wikipedia and big blog sites. The site I have is PR0 while the rest of my competition are PR4 and PR5.

PR is useless. Work the SERP instead...

I'm no expert, but I'm guessing the factors that decide your PR are different to the factors that decide your search engine rank. Isnt PR just based on links and domain age? Whereas search engine rank is based on a million and one things (and counting).

PR is just one of the many factors that affect your ranking. Work on overall optimization of your site including onsite and offsite. Also analyze the competitor site and adapt good things from them.

    hope this helps, thanks

PR has actually less value when it comes to ranking your site in SERP. What you've noticed was just a complete proof that you should not focus on RP only.

That is because it doesn't mean that if you have high PR, you will be on the top searches. Maybe your rank is low on the keyword that you are optimizing.

Well, you should use a tool like SEOquake to figure out why their site is getting ranked. Everyone talks about PageRank like it is some Holy Grail, but really all I ever care about is getting a good ranking. The only thing (IMHO) that PR is good for is when you want to sell the site it gives an implied amount of authority to it.

Position in SERPs is definitely considered better than high PR. Increase quality backlinks of your site to get position in SERPs.

See, PR and SERP rankings are independent of each other.

You get good PR on the basis of quality of backlinks. A high PR does not give you good traffic or conversion.

Whereas, for SERP rankings, Google consider 100s of factors... Since you have high PR but low SERP rankings, so you should be worried because high SERP rankings give you traffic and leads.

Three things that you must focus upon to improve your SERP rankings,
    - Quality of content published
    - Quality of backlinks
    - Social media reputation

From my personal experience, I have never seen ranking of a website determined by its PR. You can have a 0 PR and yet be ranked #1. PR is just like cherry on cake icing....focus on making the content and site structure right, you will get rankings....

Do offpage activities like bookmarking, forum posting, blog commenting and other activities then your SERP will increase.
