After visiting ht tp://www.domparison.com/ I notice netfirms has the cheapest domains - is there a reason why more people dont use their services?

With that asked, what registrar do you prefer and why?

** I know i've been asking a lot of questions later, but I have a project in mind and I need the opinion of the masses..

Usually the service depends on the price.
Personally I'd go namecheap.com (preferred) or godaddy.com if I wanna buy a domain.

I use their service and I haven't got any problem. You can try their service but don't forget this cost valid for first year.

i see... they charge $4.99 the first year and $9.95 the following years...

Any many people would be interested in paying $6.25 a year forever?.. no specials no gimicks...

Not really.I said "Usually" (i.e:in most cases)
I haven't tried their services,so I've no idea about it.
But I'd recommend you use godaddy or namecheap..Just my thoughts ;)

2 sayings keep speaking on my head whenever questions like these crop up:

    1. You get what you pay for.

    2. Cheap ain't good. Good ain't cheap.

    Your call.

I've not heard any bad stories about netfirms, but the $9.95 per year after the first year at $4.95 does put me off. I personally use either namecheap or godaddy, depending on what discount codes are available. I find godaddy are generally cheaper but namecheap's quality of service is quite superb.

Domain names are extremely cheap in today's context and I rather pay a few dollars more to someone who I can trust rather than someone I've never heard of and also I don't like surprises, I want to know that the price I've paid for would remain constant for a forseeable future.

thanks to all for their comments -

**i can't edit my earlier post, I meant: How many people would be interested in paying $6.25 a year forever?.. no specials no gimicks...

    (Just a little typo)

With that, I also realise Godaddy is on most of preferred registrar's list.. Thats good.. I will be contacting some of you guys through PMs later to talk about a project you might be interested in..

The cheapest service I know of is 1and1. But they specialize in hosting so they're not always the most flexible. Rebel.com is pretty good although a bit more expensive. IMO stay the hell away from godaddy. I hear nothing but nightmares about their customer service and unavoidable upselling.

Your best bet would be to stay with the bigboys. Most of the smaller guys just resell. Cust Service can be an issue when this is the case.
