In the recent page rank update I was expecting my home page to go from a PR 0 to a 3 or 4, and other pages to go from a 0 to a 1 or 2. I was right about the other pages in my site. However, my home page http://www.danspoker.com has only being given a PR 1. Even http://www.danspoker.com/shop has been given a PR 2 and that page is unfinished and only contains a couple of sentence, and I have certainly not promoted that page. My home page is full of unique content, has no dofollow external links, and has the more internal and external links pointing to it than any other page on my site. Could I have been given a penalty by google? I have no idea why google would penalize my home page. My home page still ranks higher in search results that other pages. If I search for poker forum, my home page is on the first page of google, not my forum page, and the same with my rakeback page. Does anyone have any idea what could have happened? This is a mystery to me.
Had you check the number of backlinks you got for your homepage from other sites are dofollow? Also you can check how many external sites links to you site in Google webmater account. Check which page has the maximum links.
I have done that. In Webmaster tools it says I have 791 links from 322 source domains to just my home page. My shop page has 0. It also say 231 internal links pointing to my home page. Webmaster tools is clearly showing that I have more links to my home page than any other page, so why is my homepage just PR 0 when even my shop page is PR 2?
could be due to your site's internal navigation where your shop page is getting links form the rest of the site therefore PR juice is flowing to that page from other pages of the site. i would not suggest you to worry too much about PR cause it is a very small factor in calculating the SERP ranking therefore hardly makes any difference anymore.
I have an internal link pointing to my shop on the links menu on every page. However, I do with all my main pages including my home page. I have a lot more internal links to my home page than any other page because I also have my logos on every single page linking back to my home page.
I am not an expert when it comes to Page Rank. But what I know having a do follow outbound links on a page is a good practice for seo. Especially if your pointing to a site with a high PR. Try to make oxfam as dofollow... Just my opinion.
Well, If Google thinks your backlinks are not worth PR 3 so it can demote your PR to 2. Since PR is assigned to individual pages, quality of backlinks to individual pages matters the most. If I were you, I would never bother about PR of my web pages.
I have checked it, and I have not seen your site even in page 3 of Google. Anyway, the value of the links that you throw to your site have different values that even sometimes if you think that the links that you built for your homepage is better than other links for your sub pages, you might still get wrong. Good thing you need to do is you think of a link building strategy that specializes only for your homepage and see the results. However, you still need to be aware of the latest algorithm update because there might be some other factors that affect your site.
