First off, kudos to Subi for taking the time to collate all the directories into one cohesive post. I know first hand how long it takes, so thanks for committing the time - much appreciated

With that said, there is a lot that can be removed to whittle this down to a far more useful list for those of you who are submitting.

My suggestion to submitters:

• First delete all the .info URLs from the list. Those are junk.
• Second delete all of the .us URLs because they all belong to a link-farm network created by the same person with a US-state.us address. If there are any that don't have a US state as part of the URL, they might be ok.
• Third delete all the Country-Name.com URLs because once again they are just a network of link farms, operated by one person.
• Lastly delete all the directories on the The Directory default phpld theme template. They are either all part of the one network, or can't be bothered having a unique design/name. To not even change the The Directory name indicates they aren't serious.

Once you've done that you will be left with a much more manageable list to submit to, and it will be far easier to spend your time deciding who you will/wont submit to. Just take out all of that junk first, it is in everyone's best interest

I'm harsh in suggesting the directory networks are link farms, because I need to be. A directory isn't just a script, it requires work in editing and moderating the content that is included. No one can run a 50-directory network and hope to do this. To be honest, I don't know how someone with 5 directories would cope, let alone anywhere near this number.

Don't submit to them and don't promote them, because they destroy the hard work that real people are doing on good directories.

Edit: You can also delete the ones that say 24X7SHOES is PR5 web directory which promotes your e-business tremendously well. They are all obviously run by the same person and they haven't even bothered to change that tagline for each individual directory.

 

Once you eliminate all the crap, there aren't many general directories. Make one good directory rather than fifty crappy ones.

 

I spent some time today eliminating the crap from the list. The number of general directories drops from 252 to 46. That's just taking out the very obvious junk. Of those 46, you'll be able to weed out more on a deeper investigation. I'd be surprised if someone could glean 10-20 good ones after that.

I think its better to arrange according to their PageRank rather than alphabetical.

 

Many of these guys are using the same database. Their latest links are exactly the same. This network is exponentially bad.
