Forums have good traffic and quality content thats why by placing your site in your signature your site will get spidered by the major search engines and visitors may also follow that links.

Signature are significant on forums because when a user clicks on the signature then it directly redirects to the company's site which increases traffic towards the site.

 

It depend what purpose you in come to forum .
Some people which to get traffic in their signature , some people which to get backlink, some people just want to make themselves popular or even advertisement.
So what you purpose ? For me signature is very important because i need the linkback.

To make your signature not spammy, try not too hard on advertise or make fast money or affiliate link.
