4 years of worst hosting experience, who provides really good servers?

Discussion in 'Web Hosting' started by csreference, Sep 7, 2011.

I had worst 4 years of hosting experience with mochahost and hostupon. Mochahost did not have DDoS attack prevention hardware and they failed to resolve and fix my issue so i dropped them and wasted my money there. Then i tried hostupon, but they have the worst uptime. All my 5 sites are down thrice in a week for several hours and its been almost 1.5 years now. Also a week ago, my sites were hacked.

They say that my sites are causing their servers to restart, but i cant think of how its even possible. I am using wordpress and pligg, which are widely used cms around and i dont even get millions of page views per month. So far my combined statistics for 5 sites goes like this. Not more than 7 GB bandwidth per month. Not more than 500K page views per month. Not more than 15000 Unique visitors per month. Not more than 30 member signups on pligg and wordpress mu per day. I have even stopped new members from registering on my sites because hostupon told me it uses their most of the server resources.

These 2 definitely goes in my shitlist. I need good servers, that statistics i mentioned above, any good server should be able to handle it smoothly. I am sure many people owns websites with even better monthly statistics than that. Can you please tell me which will provide good uptime and security?

Were your sites the ones being DDos'ed? I don't think many providers (with DDos protection or not) are going to be too happy about taking you on as a client, if your sites are constantly under attack.

Also, just because your bandwidth/visitors aren't terribly high, that doesn't mean you aren't using a lot of server resources. Certain WP plug-ins (even WP itself) can use a lot of resources. No idea about Pligg. Did they provide you with the actual resource usage, or just tell you it was too much?

No, my sites are not constantly under attack, come on who do you think i am? A big celebrity or a socialist that everyone would just target me all the time? Well, no its not like that. Like i said, its over the period of past 4 years. My first host did not have DDoS protection. Even facebook and other big websites have been under DDoS attack. Every webserver must have DDoS protection, i am a client, so that is my perspective. And the only problem with my current host is their uptime, which is very poor.

They did not give me the actual resource usage, they just told me that its making their server restart, so i blocked members from registering and submit content like a month ago, still i get poor uptime.

That is exactly why i gave my statistic details above so that other users can compare and help suggest me a good web host.

I am willing to pay the money for a right web server, i don't mind getting a vps or a dedicated server, but i just don't want to waste the money on such bad server providers.

I have absolutely no clue who you are. If I knew, I wouldn't have asked. ;)

With 15,000 visitors per month, you really shouldn't need a VPS or dedicated...unless your resource usage really is high. I wish they would have provided you with some figures, as that would help everybody get an idea.

We use both Rackspace and Slicehost. Both seem to offer good service and maximum uptime. My 2 cents.

FYI, a server reboot would mean downtime of just a few seconds, so your host is lying. If your sites are causing the server to lock up, then you'll have the downtime.

what kind of resource's are you after?

DDoS protection could be an important step. Many hosts provide Firewall which is not enough to handle DDoS protection depending on the attack size. There is Proxy Shield which could be of help too, however, the cost for proxy shield is too much to be afforded by a common user.

first of all what type of Hosting Package did u have with the companies...??
second of all always make a full background check of the history of the company that you go with,
just ask others who have been using their services. get feedback.

I dont know much about the industry. but since ive been into the market for a year and my hosting company never gave me problems.
    Visit creedhost.com for moe information.

500k views isn't a small thing for a shared hosting plan. You must consider moving to a vps if not a dedicated server so that you have control over your resources.
You will probably facing same loads issue with your new hosts as well.
If you have experience with server management you can go with an un-managed server which would be very much cheaper than a completely managed host.

You may have 2 scripts only but they do have additional plugins right ? Not all plugins are light in size and they could be really demanding at times especially apache and mysql.

Really? Four years? I would say that when you decide on your provider then let them know what your previous concerns, problems were. If you have a good provider then they don't want
    you to have troubles.

I think the problem is you can't expect much if you are only paying cheap money. I can only tell for my expirience but for me it turned out that it's worth to spend more money for good service and uptime even though you can find the same offer way cheaper elsewhere

You should move to a host that offers better service and uses better servers. Why not take a look at VPS or Cloud hosting?

These web host have more negative reviews than positive reviews. I can't imagine why you stayed with them for 4 years.

I think you don't need a VPS, unless the CPU usage is very high. Remove additional plug ins which are not compulsory.

You could try to use to use the one I use. Please check my signature for the link. Also it's cheap! 2.95 a month. You get free domain and other things. just check it out your self if you would like. They are good on my opinion.

Also there is a free one that I just talked about on a diff thread today, heres the link http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=2312072

    I've been using myPDV

You can access all your information from wherever you are around the world. It is pretty much cloud storage excess it is very organised and you can sync all
your information to your iPAD or iPhone and manage all your work offline. You can then go online and sync whatever new information or data you have posted.
Pretty cool considering you can have everything stored all in the one area. Hope this helps :)
