iOS = everything is through the Apple App store
Android = third party app stores are supported

It also depends on which processor these 2 are running.
You cannot make a comparison just like that without being subjective.

For now, I'm going with iOS 5. You can learn almost everything about using an iPhone in under 30 minutes and without a manual. With Android, well, I'd rather use MS-DOS instead. ;)

I'm an android user and have never tried iOS,but I belive that android is better, since many apps are free, also there is better chance to make money from the ads as a developer + the new android 4 will rock!!!

Ignore the idiots who just posted.

Both operating systems are *nix so both are essentially the same.

iOS has many restriction. and android is open source mine vote is for android.
and from development point of view its easier to develop apps and games for open source devices. apple has many restrictions on iOS. you cant even start programming , if you are not registered with apple .

Both OS are good, but Apple's has obviously more attention to detail and usability than Android, also because they use the OS only on their first part products; Android, on the other hand, gives more freedom to its users.

But, it is not true that it is easier to develop for Open Source devices - any developer that worked on both platforms will tell you that. Apple's restrictions aren't that big of a problem; they accept plenty of useless or stupid apps in the App Store, and they usually reject your work only if it uses parts of the OS you are not supposed to use or if your content is not allowed on the platform (adult stuff is not allowed in the App Store, for example).

Apple has great documentation that Android does not have or simply cannot have. When developing for Android you must take into consideration the hardware fragmentation, which means that the same OS goes on 30-40 different devices with different specs. Google is enforcing more control on this recently, but it is a huge, huge mess, very expensive for the developer to handle.

The other problem with the Android market is that on average the user is less inclined to purchase than the iOS user, for many reasons, including a worse App Store that is plagued by problems like apps with potentially dangerous code, including viruses.

These said, both markets are required if you want to have more chances of success with your app. I would probably start getting the app on one of the two platforms and then port it to the other.

There are SDKs like Corona SDK that allow you to develop cross-OS apps that require very little changes to work in both Android and iOS.

I prefer android due to the freedom and the huge range of free apps on the market.

iOS probably has it's comparable perks as well though.

Assuming that you want to develop for one of these you should first decide on the market and then find a programmer that knows the platform. If this is your first time I would go with iOS.
