You can direct log in to the Google Adsence or you can go from Google Webmaster Tools. Three steps are there -
    1. Sign up Google Analytics
    2. Add tracking Code - You'll get a tracking code to paste onto your pages so Google knows when your site is visited.

When you sign up on google anlytics my a gmail account and submit your site then google provides few lines code .You need to paste this code at each of your site.If you do not paste this code any page that page will not be tracked by google analytics. You need to put this code just above the closing body tag.

If you are using templates, paste the code in your header file, similar with Wordpress.

    1. From the Overview page, select the account that has the profile for the tracking code you're looking for, as the code is profile-specific.
    2. Select the profile from the accounts Overview page.
    3. From that profile's Actions column, click Edit
    4. At the top right-hand corner of the Main Website Profile Information box, click Check Status
    5. Your tracking code can be copied and pasted from the text box in the Instructions for adding tracking section
When adding your tracking code to your web pages, ensure that you paste it into the body section of your HTML code, immediately preceding the </body> tag.

Once you are sign up for Google analytics accounts you can add as much website you want and accordingly get the code for the website. It is normally in Javascript format, here you have varied option available for you as you can track particular domain, even you can opt for a main domain with multiple sub domain or cross domain tracking all these is made possible through Google Analytics account.

Well it is a very good strategy to get tracked by Google so as to know when your site was visited and from where your site is getting maximum traffic ..
    Its for the analysis purpose..
I will revert to this whether where is the correct place to put code.

    1. Sign up Google Analytics
    2. Add tracking Code - You'll get a tracking code to paste into your pages in HTML Boday so Google knows when your site is visited.
