    to present the crawl date
    in the snapshots of the search results.
    It is very important for the webmasters.

    it usually will show you the date the page was cached. Which tells you when they crawled.

    It's been quite a while since google showd freshdates in the serps... usually a sign of high activity... saw one here and there but benn very rare and for a long time now.

    Yes, you can tell from the cached date when was the site crawled.

    You might also want to note that if you did not modify your page since the last bot visit, then this cached date will not be updated and remain as the last crawled date.
