How To Recover From Panda Update?

How can you recover if you got hit badly by the latest Panda update?

 

Step 1:
Restrict all the unnecessary stuff from being indexed. Do this by tweaking the Robots.txt file of your website.

Step 2:
Remove all the thin content from your website,everything that is copied or is of low quality ( less than 200 words). The best way to do this is to NO INDEX them…you can no index individual posts by using ROBOTS META plugin. By doing so, you can update the content quality and Re-index them.
You can also remove the posts that you don’t want your website to be associated with any longer. This can be accomplished by using the remove url option in the webmaster tools, but dont go crazy with it as Matt cuts warned that Google might look at this as abuse of the tool.
Step 3:
Check if you have a privacy policy and TOS page, if not add one.
Step 4:
Visit your webmastertools and fix all the http and crawl errors, if any.
Step 5:
You may want to check your website navigation…is a single post part of different categories? This might not necessarily create a problem but its better to be as clean as possible on all the factors that might hint at foul play.
Step 6:
You may want to reduce the number of Ads on the post pages, always make sure the content is >>> than ads on any page.
Thats it! Now give it some time and keep doing what you do. There is no need to be discouraged or lose hope.

 

Sounds like good steps but for pages with less than 200 words, I think it should be fine as long as they are original contents..

 

I do agree with WishBone, Just ask one question to yourself: the information you have provided on your website is useful to your visitors? if yes than not to worry. (make sure the information you provided should be your creation not copied from other websites)

 

Just make sure you have unique and quality content on your site and you are not involved in any of Black Hat SEO technique.

 

See, Panda usually highlight websites with quality content... If other websites are over-taking your site, then you should work on your on page content.

fofoo's advice is very good. What it really boils down to is that there are numerous factors that could be affecting your site, but the bottom line is that you need to have quality, original content. If you share more details about your site, we could help you better. Otherwise, we're just guessing.

 

If you want to pass Google, proof read. Make sure it's original, and reads well. You'll be fine.

 

The worst part is - I don't know if paying some guy $500 to redesign my website is going to fix the issue.

 

how did google decided that 200 words will benefit the visitor and 199 will not? if that is true it will be "just stupid"

 

yeah these are the only ways to get rid of panda update. thanks for sharing dude. but my problem is i have a lot of pages and contents. how can i remove all of them?

Compare the content you have on your page with content of pages around you in the same search or niche. It needs to be different and ideally what the searchers is looking for.

You can always force yourself to provide fresh content. Add some kind of feature or information that has to be updated once a week. It isn't as easy for
large sites but with a smaller personal site it can be quick and easy fix.

200 words is not good on a page if there are a bunch of ads on it...

I have always heard 400 words or better but never heard Google say it or any specific number so IDK.

I personally try to not have pages under 400 words. I never been hit by Panda BTW. But that don't mean nothing.
