Some retards are blind to the word Banned, they still reply asking for more details even though the topic starter is banned. My suggestion is to get the threads hidden until the ban is lifted.

Just because someone is banned it doesn't make their topic irrelevant. Hell, some of the stickies in forums were started by people who are (or were) banned.

How about an automatic lock on threads that didn't got any new posts in the last 4 years ?

4 years is enough time for everything to change twice in our line of business . Don't you think so ?

Are you volunteering to pre-moderate all posts? lol

There certainly are days that I want to block all non-English speaking countries by IP. Make the site only accessible to the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. It certainly would cut out the vast majority of the crap. Unfortunately that's not really a practical solution. A possible solution would be an option that a user could set to just filter/hide all threads/posts from non-English countries.

You make me sad Shawn. =(
I'm not from an English speaking country but still I don't post crap.
Having a filter like that would mean that my threads would get less views/posts
    just because some people misbehave.

Just saying it's a *possible* solution, not something that's being worked on.

Yeh, but even though it's not a good solution is you ask me.
Sure I agree that there's a lot of crap being posted, but there must be a better way.

    Two practical solutions are -

    a) Some kind of tests before user is able to post/start a thread. Like sites like oDesk do.

    b) Expand paid membership subscription. Impose restrictions on free users. Like limit the number of posts/thread they can make in a day. Making BST completely paid forum will help big time. May be make it as free users can buy the services, but only paid members can sell. It will cut off most of the spammers looking for free cookies. Leaving very few behind, those will be relatively easier to moderate.

@Wulkanen - Shawn did say there are some days where he feels that way (due to frustration no doubt), and I do not know Shawn personally but I know he would never paint everyone with the same brush like that. Even if he were a bad guy, he probably wouldn't due to loss of revenue (generally most bad guys are obsessed with money).

    ---

Anyway, back to the point - only part solution I can see is:

When you create a new thread, you have to tick to say you believe it's the best forum for the post.. How about adding 'The topic starter is banned. They will not be able to see your reply. Do you wish to continue?' or something.. That might weed out the ignorant.

So are you saying Reputation FAQ Sticky should be hidden forever? Excellent suggestion, genius.

Do you mean the threads in BST where the op is banned but the users still ask about the offer.

Looks like you only visit the BST go on any section and you will find this kind of shit. In a thread "who will win the EPL" most posts will be "Chelesa of corse" "Dontt wach footballl" etc.

Its actually really valuable. When the user later posts a BST thread saying they're really good at xyz other users can see that they're really not so smart and avoid doing business with them. Caveat Emptor at its finest.

I tried using "Ignore" on dumb users, so their posts would nott show up. But there's jus too many of them. I wonder if it's possible to ignore a whole category, to avoid topics like "Who is your best bollywood actor" etc.

I know some forum engines allows you to block a whole category, but didn't find a similar option here yet.
